Craft parts do not cast shadows except when lit by the sun. If you believe otherwise, look again. You may be surprised. Some examples... #1 This ship has a large thermal radiator panel and lights shining downward on it. The Mun surface has no shadow from the ship lights on the radiator panel. The landing legs have faint shadows from the sun (it's up to the left) under the ship, but none from the other lights. In KSP 1.10 or 1.11? #2 Bob is standing on top of a Mk2 plane on Kerbin. His helmet light shines through every part of the plane onto the ground. There are no shadows. KSP 1.12.5 #3 More direct test... the first fin should shadow the other fins. Looks so weird. KSP 1.12.5 Here's the bug report I put in but it wasn't addressed. https://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/25693 I expect the devs designed it this way as a performance compromise. Multiple lights would probably cause a large performance hit especially 10+ years ago. But considering how far the other visual mods have progressed, I wonder if a mod could enable all shadows and how much FPS would drop.

A very typical problem for Unity causing shadows to be cast in incorrect order (check how your shaders are going through render queue):

As straightforward as the title of this post, my shadows are at a low resolution whilst my settings are maxed out. It first seemed to happen when i changed my graphics card (from a GTX 1050 to an RTX 2060) so i think it might have to do something with that. I hope someone knows what's happening Here's an image of the situation: My settings (tried upping shadow cascades in the settings.cfg): Technical info KSP: 1.11.2 GPU: Nvidia RTX 2060 CPU: Intel Core i5-7400 RAM: 16GB

Hello, I believe this is a general KSP bug... Electric Kerbal lights (Illuminator and Kerbal helmet) do not cause parts to cast shadows. Shadows from the sun are working normally for parts and terrain, cascading in any combination. Electric lights light the parts and terrain surfaces normally but the light also shines through parts to light other parts behind the first one. In other words, light is transmitted AND reflected. Please see my example craft with photos on Kerbal X: https://kerbalx.com/Krazy1/why-no-part-shadows Mods CKAN export:

you used to be able to set shadow cascades to 64 and the shadows would be high res even at far distances but now the shadows are blurry until i come right up in their face, why they do dis? https://imgur.com/a/ZevLFtM

This is my first post, so first of all let me thank you for this great game, my whole family can play. I've bought recently new rig with GTX 1070 and (re-)started playing KSP. I enjoy it very much, but there is one particular rendering bug, that is really annoying - fog/shadow curtain and shadow discontinuities. I have reported it under #15193. But I want to ask you guys if this is well know bug, and if there is anything I can do to mitigate it. I think I tried everything I could find, -force-d3d11 -force-glcore, various shadow cascades settings, Unity rendering settings, all I get is what you see below. Thoughts? Best regards, Adam

I recently decided I'd try and fix 1.1 on my PC because I found a workaround to the crashes I had before. Here is what I have done so far: Download 1.1.3 via Steam. KSP will not launch. run `ln -s /dev/null libpulse-simple.so.0` in the KSP directory, and set `LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH %command%_64` as launch options. KSP now launches, but menus are empty. I then added `-force-glcore` to the launch options. KSP launches and menus are readable, but bad shadow glitches occur. Everywhere this is mentioned online it states to mess with the graphics settings. I tried to fix the shadows via the settings, but have had no luck so far. I also can't click `apply` in the settings, it does nothing. Besides the shadows, everything seems to be working fine. EDIT: Setting Shadow Cascade to 2 (via the in-game pause menu) fixed the shadows, but the main menu settings is still broken.

A thousand apologies if this has been asked before, but several searches have failed to turn up exactly what I'm looking for... Is there a setting in vanilla KSP, or a mod, that decreases or reduces the effect of shadows, just for Map view? I'm not looking to affect the shadows in "normal" flight view, and I do like to see where the day, night, and terminator are on the map, but I'd really like to be able to see the night-side surfaces a little better on the map... just a partial reduction of the shadow effect should be sufficient.

So I've been playing KSP for a long time now and one of the few issues I've been having is that the shadow that my craft makes disapears when I zoom out too much, is there anyway for me to fix this or not? Thanks.

I have been wondering this for a while now, and there hasn't been a very specific answer. When I last tried figuring out what this slider does I found this thread which I quote down below. This is the best definition I can find of what Render Quality does, but it doesn't fully answer. Also it appears to conflict with what Vexx32 says a few lines lower about Shadow Cascades: Can someone give a list of exactly what Render Quality does visually inside KSP and anything else pertinent? The wiki also doesn't give a good answer as it directs you towards reading Unity's documentation. Many thanks and likes to those of you who can answer!
