To RSS or not to RSS

Title says it all. Do you play RSS? Do you play 2x, 3.2x, or 6.4x? If so, why? Do you think stock planets are the right size?

I have been playing RSS+FAR for a while now. And recently I added RO too. I have too say, that playing on Kerbol is like to play a game, but RSS x10 +RO is like to play a simulator haha (and it is awesome!)

BTW you might be struggling to keep your memory usage below the 3.5Gb with these mods...

RSS/RO!

But I wish there was a mod that was a new planetary system, that was realistic sized, but not the Solar System - like a cartoon of the Solar System, but without the physical impossibilities of the Kerbolar System. There aren't any bright purple planets!

KSP looks really crappy with the giant ascent-stages/interplanetary-ships

I think it looks better because it looks like real space vehicles :3

I want to play RSS, but I think KSP looks really crappy with the giant ascent-stages/interplanetary-ships you need to build with it. Also, theres the lag that comes with those kinda part counts.

Honestly, with Procedural Parts the part counts aren't that bad.

Anyway, to the main question, I found orbital launches to be too easy in stock KSP, even with FAR + DRE. However, rendering the larger planets is hard on my laptop's integrated graphics chip. Once I get a new computer, I plan on making a custom 10x scale config including the Outer Planets Mod.

RSS all the way! When I first got into orbit in RSS it was like magic. Now every time I see the puny stock Kerbin my jimmies become rustled.

But really, seeing the size of the real Earth and what it takes to get into orbit in the real world was a bit of a shocker after KSP had sort of molded my perception of how things work in the wrong way XD

RSS all the way, I can't play regular KSP anymore since I got started in RSS. Everything you do in it brings back the joy of your early achievements.

I want to wait until KSP has gone Unity 5 and the 64 bit client is stable first.

With ATM, RSS is perfectly stable right now.

Not really, only if you aren't using RO+Procedural Parts, which you really should be if you're going full scale. You might just be designing your launchers badly.

Try 3.2, or the 2X. Use FAR. Very little difference from stock, really in terms of ships.

It used to be my favorite with realism overhaul and other mods (I loved going to Titan), but in an instant, BAM! Bugs hit me like crazy! Textures disappeared, rockets blew up and I could not enter the VAB even if I tried to. Great mod, but it's sooooooooo bad with bugs. 7/10 Rating.

I use 1/10th RSS, I like having the Real solar System, but I don't want all the dependencies with RO, using the 1/10th config I can keep the stock parts, but use a little more dV to get to orbit, and everything is inclined. no more launch equitorial and hohhman transfer to the Mun, now it's "Oh god, I'm inclined 56 degrees relative to the moon, and I only have 1km/s of dV, I need to scrub and relaunch later."

Too tedious for me. I think the stock sizes are just about perfect for a game.

Ditto. I only have about 16 hours of play on a weekend/holiday as an absolute maximum (long gone are those teenagery/early 20s days when I could play something for 72 hours at a time. Heck, it takes frequent eyestrain breaks for me to even do a full 16 hours), and I don't want to spend 15 of those hours getting into LEO.

:/

Actually it's about 9 minutes to orbit

I would be playing with some RSS configuration, if I could play KSP at all. KSP 0.90 is basically incompatible with OS X Yosemite, crashing several times an hour. Because I can't downgrade back to Mavericks, I decided to stop playing KSP, until 1.0 is released.

I'm not exactly sure which RSS configuration I would choose. Stock planets are just too small for the current stock parts, which are generally more efficient than a year ago. Reasonable aerodynamics make the situation even worse. I tried the 6.4x Kerbol System a while back, but the delta-v requirements were a bit too high for the stock parts. I also tried RO, but it felt too confusing due to a million new parts and dozens of mostly redundant fuel options.

2X and 3.2 are just fine with stock parts (I've only ever had FAR on with any RSS cfg, and a better atmosphere helps). 3.2 feels like stock to me now, so I imagine you's probably not notice a difference if you went from stock to 2X with FAR with just stock parts.

I keep a heavily modded stock install around for fooling around but easily 90% of my KSP time is spent in one of my RSS installs (Sol solar system, all of them).

There's a 10x Kerbin config floating around, you can play RealKerbinSolarSystem.
