UPDATE: during SquadCast, Maxmaps told us that the ROUND8 tank will stay due to our reactions. Thanks to everybody supporting the cause!

In addition to the poll (Vote here!) I would like to open this thread to enable all of you to show your crafts using the ROUND8 tank before 1.0 hits and all of our designs become useless.

I would like to start with this lander that visited all 5 Jool moons.

• The Round8 Toroidal Fuel Tank was repurposed as a 1.25m inline Xenon Tank.
  

Looking at the ROUND8's stats, it was redundant with the Oscar-Tank, except in terms of design. We needed an inline Xenon tank much more than we needed another low-capacity LFO tank for probes.

You are, of course, free to mod it back to its original specs if you want to, or create another cfg to have both variants.

Behold: the Voyager Probe Rack, equipped with seven Eve Drop Probes.

I hauled it to Eve in the cargo bay of the Voyager I, my interplanetary exploration flagship, and left it in orbit. I've deployed to of the drop probes so far and have five left that I can send into the atmosphere whenever I like. Since there are seven of them and I like theme naming, I'm naming them after the cities that built the Seven Wonders of the World.

Didn't someone at squad make one of these when they introduced command seats as a demonstration of the seat? Seems rather stupid they are removing it if so. Of course I guess you could use an ion drive now.

Seriously dudes. We can make SQUAD go back in this decision. The poll created in the other section is showing that most players want ROUND8 to stay the way it is.

Pardon me for dancing on the grave here, but I consider the donut tank to be something like the stereotypical bimbo-model: Looks nice, but other than that, there's nothing interesting or appealing about it.

I personally never found a decent use for it. If I needed only a small quantity of fuel, I phoned up Oscar instead. In my ignorance about good uses for the donut-tank, I even made a thread a while back to try find one. To this day I still haven't found a place where the donut-tank would fit.

I actually like the graphical look of this particular tank. I wish it would stay in some sense, maybe jsut change its hidden stats. Its a pretty cool fuel tank design i think. Makes things look cooler. I will be sad to see it go.

SQUAD is planning to turn it into a Xenon fuel tank, not to remove it entirely ^^

I think it's about compactness:

This tank allows you to legitimately* stack things in its empty center portion, for less height than the Oscar and more fuel.

So while it should be easy to make up for the lost units of fuel using a combination of Oscars and FLT-100, these redesigns won't meet the same compactness requirements which could lead to:

- Requiring bigger Cargo Bay/fairing

- Less stable landers (higher CoG)

- Reduced ground clearance / too short landing gear.

But it's Squad game and they are entitled to make their own decisions. I'm sure we'll find new designs...

*ie: without clipping. For instance a reaction wheel, a 24-7S or a 200 battery. Granted, you might not be able to select the center part, so it's not perfect... But it's not clipped. On the other hand, it's really really easy to clip using this tank. Even by mistake...

I build me one of those too... I called it DERP - Donut-shaped Emergency Rocket Pod

Toroidal tank is a crusual part of my 2 stage landers. It gives ability to build it cimpact.

Note that if you're using two Oscar-Bs, you should probably switch 'em to a single Round-8 if at all possible, to take advantage of the better fuel ratio of the Round-8.

I really wish we could get some more tanks in the low end of the 1.25m range, plus more 0.625m tanks for probes and mini/micro landers. Often, an FL-T100 is too big for these things, and there's no FL-T25 or T50 or Oscar-Cs etc..

Many craft are going to break in 1.0 anyway, given that a lot of parts are being rebalanced. Now is the best time to make such changes. (I really think 1.0 is going to be the update that breaks the most designs and saves.)

Honestly, this whole thing reminds me of removing reaction wheels from some probe cores during the last update. Community got up in arms about broken craft for a week or two, then we just reworked our craft and moved on.

Lenfrid: Sure, but it would have either had a longer center tank, which would have made the entire thing higher, or they would have used a full diameter tank, meaning that the batteries and monopropellant and stuff would have to move somewhere else.

Joevan: They would have found some way, I guess.

Lenfrid: Maybe... but what about the descent stage? The K2 guys ran out of fuel 15m above the surface, and K4 lithobraked half their descent stage to pieces before the bottom four ROUND-8 tanks were added! And now, Mr. engineer, tell me how 40 units of fuel could have been added to that stage with any other tank? Imagine Oscars down there... there would be no clearance at all! And there's no other free space that isn't used by payload. Wasn't it already difficult enough to wiggle the rover out of there?

Lenfrid: They would have been forced to make the entire lander bigger, which in turn would have made the third stage fairing bigger and heavier... maybe they would have needed to change the entire Sarnus-5 just because of not having ROUND-8s !!
