PS4 Announcement Discussion

Some people say Squad should be doing things that modders haven't....a console port definitely fits that bill. :P

I wonder if we can mod a playstation so that it works exactly like a PC, then mod a PC so it works exactly like a playstation, heh-heh.

winstation 511. (bypassing all those low level upgrades like 4 and 10.

I need a version for my iPad so that I can blow up rockets during commercials (also get free upgrades if I watch adds that trick you into watching the same add 5 times before you get the upgrade you think you are going to get watching the ad once).

If you put an X-box, playstation, or nintendo in front of me I could not tell which was which. Never played any of them.

How can you design parts or make mods on a playstation? Does blender have a playstation version, ROFL. I like to see them edit their persistent file, or mod a cfg.

IMO its for entry level players only, it would be like a starter package.

Starter package with a *likely* AAA price tag.

5th go read Harv's Dev Blog for more about the developemnt

plus some of the major devs just got off a vacation, and two days of work (IIRC) would have resulted in a dev blog much like last weeks

So I promise I did actually search a bit before asking but...

Is there a link to said blog?

The last update I see was in 2013

You kid, but if I could get a KSP app that allowed me to work in the editor anywhere I would pay real money for it.

Or a KSP app that ties into the game itself as an auxiliary display, maybe showing map mode or something, kinda like Fallout 4 is doing with their mobile Pip-Boy app.

Yes. This is a good idea.

Most everyone here has gotten vastly more out of KSP than they paid for already. I'm happy for whatever other ways to monetize their time the dev can figure out, this isn't a hobby for them, it's their livelihood.

That really depends on what they deliver in the future. As I have made clear on this thread I am personally very skeptical due to their previous track record of only making simple mobile games.

But that does not have to mean that they are incapable or bad developers. For all we know these guys might actually do a good job.

As far as I know the porting of KSP to PS4 will barely affect the development of the PC version of KSP so even if the console version is a disaster it wont matter because most of us already play on PC and will continue to play on PC. The point of porting to PS4 is to give more players access to the great game of KSP and the extra money squad makes from PS4 Will likely go into hiring more devs that will work on PC KSP.

That really depends on how much money they had to invest and how much of an impact a failure would do.

Sorry if it has already been discussed but, what about PS4 version Mods support ?

I heard about Microsoft allowing Fallout 4 PC mods to run on XBone version as well, so I am just wondering what is possible to do with these consoles regarding Mods.

Thanks.

I highly doubt it would be easy to convince Sony to allow mods. When large companies like Bethseda had issues, then it is for sure not going to be any easier for a small company like squad.

And if they do allow mods it will be mainly mods that does not require a dll or any other code to work, so mainly will be limited to parts and other simpler mods.

I hate iPads, but I love both of these ideas. I could spend my lunchtime working on designs rather than reading the forums! :D

Games like little big planet and minecraft show that you can do complex games on a controller. And arguably KSP VAB/SPH would be easier than LBP for many builds, as everything attaches to a common node. It would no doubt be less straightforward than a mouse, but doable.

and flying ships should be fine on a controller. Hopefully that will also feed back into the PC version giving us better default controller support - there are times when I'd like to play KSP via steam home streaming on the TV in the living room, but can't because controller support isn't comprehensive.

my biggest concern is the physics and mods. The PS4 has a relatively weak CPU so would that mean restrictive part count limits or bad performance? And I don't olay with lots of mods, but at least some are important and I assume they won't be supported on console. Overall I think it is a good thing to bring KSP to a wider audience.

Not an official app, but there is a mod that lets you display a map and other data on a web page - I use that on an iPad quite a lot.

Minecraft ft on console is like that - no mod support, no support for servers (only basic multiplayer) but it is massive on console. Maybe some of those people come to the PC version eventually, maybe they don't. But it increases awareness of the product, and brings more money in so the developer can continue to develop the game. If you play on a different platform and the developer delivers on their promise that it will be not be affected by this version, then it should only impact you in a positive way.

science. mining. scanning. moding. anything that requires left or right clicking a part in flight.

We simply don't know that yet. There's no evidence to suggest the PS4 version will not be able to do those things, even without an interface change. It has a touchpad and buttons, no reason it couldn't have full mouse-like functionality.

Having lunch or going to the toilet means means less development time spent on game content...

Not true. If the devs don't eat, they die. Then not only do you lose that dev time, but you lose the dev time of the devs who have to take him out back and bury him so no questions get raised.

Similar problems happen if they don't go to the toilet, but I won't elaborate.

It really depends on what you think - is development time more important to you (or the community as a whole, or the devs) then writing up articles? I seem to recall a certain amount of complaining a while ago about 'lazy devs' or 'devs spending time doing frivolous things' instead of developing the game ;)

I am happy. I never got my hands on the PS4, but I hope it will be nice for the KSPlayers.

Maybe a very minor setback before launch, but SQUAD will let another company take the wheel from there, so why the worries 2.gif

Not according to Squad.

Having lunch or going to the toilet means means less development time spent on game content...

Eating/urinating/defecating are physiological needs. You don't perform them, you die.

I don't believe it won't affect the development. I understand Harv and other developers are one thing and Squad is a company they work for. The company's PR department decides what to say and what not to say and they get directives from the jefes.

I can't believe there isn't any more info on 1.0.3 yet. All they talk about now is ps4 and next major unity update. I hope something happens very soon to remind the pc backers that got them started that they still care about the PC's success.

As an aside, I have never once seen/hear any person "poke or ask for ksp to come to the ps4" as in the notes from squad. I seriously have never even seen a remotely close whisper about this before. If someone has asked about it before, there's likely a 1:1000000000000 ratio of those people to people asking for PC fixes and etc.

Not mad or ranting, just getting confused/concerned.

They are examples of other things that actually subtract from development time, others would be travel and meetings, neither of which are development or would you like the developers to sleep in the office?

Your example has no merit or basis in fact, just supposition, as the PS4 port is being developed by a 3rd party any reduction in development on KSP would be minimal.

But of course you can argue semantics here, and claim your point is valid if even 0.01% of a days development time was expended on discussion with Flying Tiger games, but that would be absurd, so my examples didn't need to be any more valid ;)
