"Eve: Order Zero" -- a KSP Graphic Novel (POSTLUDE COMPLETE...bet you didn't see THAT coming.)

Recommended Posts

Oh why did they both have to be 8s... I'm trapped in quite a tight corner now as well.

Oh, I dunno. Thegamer211 and I have by far the smallest 'area' of our guess, you have probably a better chance than we do...

Sorry guys I was climbing a mountain yesterday. Have to get those peaks in while the weather is still good! Also Kranefly/M7 combo with the lander filled has a TWR pf 0.03, so positioning the ship for landing is taking a very long time...also lots of LF, I will probably have to send Kranefly back to Gilly for another load.

I hope I'm never famous enough that people think I've died when I go hiking for a day. Given your location and the word "peaks" I'm assuming the Adirondacks? I go to college in upstate NY and it's funny to think that we might have seen each other on a mountain in real life.

That TWR is rough, but at least Gilly has really low gravity. You could separate the two ships, aerobrake the Eve lander into a low orbit (presumably it's designed to go through atmosphere without overheating), and use the engines on the Kranefly (those gigantor panels will heat right up and pop since they have such a low max temp). Jeb is crazy enough that it just might work...

Everyone just stay frosty. I have the M7 where I want it but i don't like the fuel sit: going back to Gilly for more, maybe 2 trips. Update probable tomorrow, but not promised. Unlikely the M7 will land in the next update.

Or you could use Hyperedit to, ahem, "simulate" those refueling trips :sticktongue::wink:

You should top off the fuel tanks to be on the safe side. That's what I'd do though.

My guess? Hmm... By understanding that Fd=1/2 * p * u^2 *Cd * A I understand that the M7 will land... 6.7km away. Oh wait I forgot L=1/2 * p * v^2 * A * Cl. My estimate is now... 6.71km away.

Too late? I don't care. Actually I do... Sorry then...

I am not saying I am going through withdrawals but... Does Kuzzter even play KSP for fun or just for the webcomic?

OTOH, this is Eve, and supposedly losing speed before you break up in the thick atmosphere is a problem. The heavier it is, harder it is to slow before you hit the dangerous bit. Perhaps going in with just enough dV to kill your terminal velocity and land with a little bit of margin is the way to go?

Surface refueling (using Billmobile) is definitely going to happen. I presume Kuzzter wants to land with as much fuel in the M7 as possible just to minimize the refueling time (which may take very long if there's not too much ore at the location).

Well, I don't think that this is the issue. It is not like the next window for a Hoffman transfer to Kerbin is just in a few days ...

That said, refueling in the ground is a major PITA due to the lack of stock fuel hoses, so I can see from where the desire of making the least ground fueling operations possible comes :/

... 30km. Sorry but the M7 looks very heavy. I would consider this still as a precise landing :D.

It is really heavy! Well fortunately the Dipperkraft is in an area where I don't need to be too precise--it's not on an island in the Explodium Sea, for example, nor is it in the only flat part of a mountain range. But I still do want to land it close, just for funsies :)

It's funny how the texture replacer's visor reflections add to the overall story. Am I the only one who noticed it?

Thank you! I do love what shows up in the visors sometimes, it always reminds me of the fact that the only image of Armstrong on the moon is in Aldrin's visor. I do sometimes try to position the actors to get a meaningful reflection in the visor, so yeah :)

Did you got another message from mods kuzzter?

Nope--"to the wise man, a single word is sufficient".

So I decided to order everyone's guesses by distance, show the distance range each person's guess covers, and how much total area said guesses covered. I made an excel program to do the calculations necessary, and will post the results here.

Also, "Range of guess" is essentially the range, in distance, covered by the guess.

Thanks so much for organizing this! It will save me time that I can spend on moar comics :)

I can see Kuzzter snickering at us, all smug and gleefull :D We took the hook, bait and sinker - and he's getting ready to yank the pole :sticktongue:

Oh no, this is for real--no shenaningans, i am really going to do a powered landing of the M7 as close to Dipper as I can make it.

*yaaawn*

Finally posting here again! I missed this place. The thing is, I can't play KSP anymore because of RAM stuff. I'm waiting for 1.1, for now I'm obsessed with From The Depths. But I'll try out 1.0.5 with a new KSP, surely :D!

And I must say, your story is sooooo epic! I have seen badassery and tomfoolery, but never such awesomeness like this! I like the M7, I guess I'll partly copy your design for my Eve lander now, as I've copied your design for my Mun science harvester thingy that crash-landed at 80 m/s multiple times, with Bob being nearly made to jam! And yes, he had concerns about that lander. Oh well, the magic of landing gears …

For the M7 landing, my guess is 15.1 kilometers. You're a good pilot, but precise landing is difficult!

Also, it should be possible to launch a ham sandwich from Gilly into solar orbit using two sepratrons. Just saying.

Thanks! Too bad about your RAM issues, hopefully 1.1 will be the solution. Happy to hear the comic gave you some practical ideas.

"Hey enzin! Hey enzin!
Sorry I must have Old Man disease or something--need help identifying if this is a parody of another song. Either way, brilliant stuff Mad one!
I think M7 will land on and crush the dippenkraft wreck (and possibly Bob) !
Wouldn't that be a fantastic way to end the comic? Don't tempt me...

Ha, yeah! It was indeed an ADK high peak, Sawtooth. Kuzz Jr and I made the climb with some friends. They're working on 46, we're not so serious about it but I think we're at 9 or 10 so far so at some point will probably just go and unlock the achievement :)

If you do ever see me IRL you will know me by the cavalry hat, which of course I wear all the time.

I am not saying I am going through withdrawals but... Does Kuzzter even play KSP for fun or just for the webcomic?
I don't do much in KSP that does not make it to the webcomic, but it's doing the comic that makes it extra fun for me, so we all win :)

Half correct; I don't care if the M7 is empty when it lands, as the Hohmann transfer home is in about a year so there's plenty of time to refuel on the surface. I just want to make sure I have plenty of fuel for the descent, both to keep out of the "too fast too low explodey" zone and to get that nice precise landing within sight of the Dipperkraft! :D
