As a native southerner, "pin" and "pen" are pronounced the same (both like "pin").

"Ben," "been," and "bin" are all pronounced the same way.

"Mayonnaise" has only two syllables (sounds like "Man-ase")

There are other notable differences between the way I pronounce things and the way everyone around me (no longer living in the South) does, I don't consider them "strange pronunciations," I just consider these people to be flat-out wrong.

Why the ü in the splash screen? That makes it closer to moon.

ū would make it closer to moon. ü would be closer to mean, but not even that. Still I just say moon.

EDIT: ü is a closed front rounded vowel (yes, I had to look that up) there is an audio clip here.

I took german in college, I have a feel for what it sounds like ;) Certainly closer to rhyming with loon than fun. Also, it's The Mun, as it is "the Moon" (Apollo visited the moon, not moon, and Viking visited Mars, not the Mars).

So I say moon.

I'm not a huge Starbucks fan, but I order small, medium and large there, when I happen to go (never ordered a large, I have to say).

Agreed except the in game name for the star at the center of the planetary system is called "the sun" - although I think it would be better if it WERE officially "Kerbol" and

It's MOON. While the umlaut is not always present, it does appear in some cases as MÂÂÂÂün and therfore has the ue sound so it is perhaps at best Mewn.

Certainly not Mun as in rhymes with one.

EDIT: Thinking on it, I've been saying Duna more or less like Scott Manley does, even before I ever saw one of his videos and even though I don't have a Scottish accent.

It might be a better idea to use IPA for the pronunciations, as it deals with ambiguity ... such as Laythe and the ending consonant being voiced (ð) or voiceless (θ)

I consulted IPA-spelled words often, but to know how to read IPA is almost a study of its own.

Probably main strange pronounciation for me is

Jool - Jul, like in July

Also:

Ike - Ee-ke. Ee - just long e, wall-e style "Eeeeva!", and ke - no analog in english. Like in Catch, but with more plain sound instead of a...

I have some IPA in the 'fridge, had I known this was a good idea, I'dve had that with dinner instead of wine.

Nova's official unofficial may-or-may-not-be-considerable-as-canon pronunciation list:

Eeloo: Ee-lue

Jool: "Tool" with a J.

Laythe: Like "Faith" with an L.

Vall: "Fall" with a V.

Tylo: Tie-low.

Bop: The sound made when I hit people who pronounce Laythe using two syllables.

Pol: Poll and Pohl have equal acceptance.

Dres: Drezz.

Duna: Doo-na, or if you're British, Dew-na.

Ike: Like, like "like".

Kerbin: Godfellow Trampoline Mangione Breadstick Defiler.

Mun: Like "moon", Muhn is also acceptable when the umlaut is misplaced or unavailable. I just call it "the moon", however.

Minmus: Min-musz

Eve: Eve, like the name, biblical figure, or album by The Alan Parsons Project

Gilly: Gill-E (like wall-e but with a gill instead of a wall)

Moho: Mo-ho.

Kerbol: Ker-bohl/Ker-bowl

How do you pronounce Eve? Eve, as in evolution.

I was really confused until I remembered evolution could be said with a long E
