Suggestion: Add Navball markers to the smiley list.

Alshain, how did you do it in the post you linked?

I copied the URL's to the SVG files on the wiki and inserted them as images, a rather painstaking method. Also if for some reason the Wiki URL should change, the post will break. Also it's not really a good practice, I mean I doubt Squad cares since both the forum and the wiki are theirs but some people don't like you eating their bandwidth on other sources.

If they fully manage it, can't you email them a set of new smilies and say "add these please"?

You would think a hosting company would have a way for their customers to access the customization options. The ones I've dealt with always do but, I can't pretend to know the specific scenario Squad is in so if Kasper says it isn't possible there is no reason to doubt him.

What if there was some kind of workaround? A text on the post submission box that has a link to a very small page with %7Boption%7D embeds of extra smileys? Just a quick way of doing things like getting the Fund image and pasting it into the post without looking for a few minutes/seconds/days trying to find it.

That would require a new text editor button logo.

Calm yourselves. The forums are currently experiencing the same issue the wiki is - files cannot be uploaded properly. KasperVld (and the rest of the Squad staff) are not necessarily against the inclusion of these as smilies, it's just not technically feasible right now. No, I don't know when the upload issue will be fixed. No, it is not because someone at Squad is being lazy - I think it MIGHT be because Alex's position hasn't been refilled yet. :)

Side note : The next version of the forum will probably not be vBulletin. No guarantees.

  • 1 year later...

Turns out this is easier to do in IPS than it was on vB. The following have been implemented:

:prograde:
:retrograde:
:normal:
:antinormal:
:radial:
:antiradial:
:targetpro:
:targetretro:
:maneuver:

:prograde::retrograde::normal::antinormal::radial::antiradial::targetpro::targetretro::maneuver:

Apologies for the dark background on the prograde/retrograde ones, they were barely visible without it.  Fixed, credit to @Tex_NL for the better versions.

What's wrong with giving the prograde and retrograde a narrow black outline? It's a bit more work but will look a whole lot better.

Still, glad to see those finally added. It's a small step into making things bearable.

I tried that and it looked worse to my eye, but I'm not a great image editor by any stretch. If someone would like to make 20x20 pixel pngs for them that look better I'd be happy to replace them.

I'll see what I can do.
I probably have to star from scratch but that would only make things easier.

I used these ones from the wiki as a starting point before resizing, if that helps: 90px-Prograde.svg.png 90px-Retrograde.svg.png

First draft for prograde: http://tex.texel.com/prograde.png
I like the thin outline round the horizontal and vertical bars. Round the circle it is a bit too thick.

Second draft: http://tex.texel.com/prograde2.png
Almost there, just needs a little bit more contrast on the central dot.

Third version: http://tex.texel.com/prograde3.png

On to the retrograde: http://tex.texel.com/retrograde.png
Not bad for a first attempt.
I think we're done here: http://tex.texel.com/retrograde2.png

Possible. I'd prefer not to replace any existing ones as that will break old posts, but if there is something useful to add it will be considered.

Yeah no, my idea would be to add new ones. I love the existing ones too much and besides mine won't be better than them anyway :P:) .
