FAR Fighter Challenge: BD Armory AI

Recommended Posts

my Berkuts are ready to fly, I'll put it in for standard aero if the challenge is still open, if not I've thrown down the challenge to beat five of them.

(they only carry two missiles each, they didn't even need machine guns to beat my AWACS which so far is the only plane to have actually managed to shoot one down (and damage the other four, and cause the AI to panic resulting in TWO midair collisions))

Ooh, I would like to see those Berkuts... in FAR.

Sigh, my newest experimental fighter jet puts itself in a tight spinout or turns too slowly.

I finally installed dynamic deflection and was messing around with it. I think that the default settings on the machine hosting the contest should be for dynamic deflection to do nothing if they are not already.

This way planes built by people without the mod will perform the same.

It might be nice if you could make sure the d-7 deflection is 100% at all dynamic pressures because that is the way it was designed.

edit: I'm not sure it's possible to set a default that way so I guess people will have to have dynamic deflection installed

Yup. If you want DD negated, you'll need to do it yourself. The D-7 download in the first post has the DD settings at 100% for all pressures.

That's epic when the AI keep fighting even with half their wings destroyed lol.

Btw the flaps on the front side of the swept wings help with roll at highspeed correct?

Leading edge slats are designed to stop the main wing from stalling at extreme AoA. To do that, you want to set them for Dynamic Deflection 100% at all pressures, and -100%AoA. You can use them as ailerons if you want, but it's usually not a good idea.

Wanderfound I found a way to increase your frame rates while recording those fights.

I turned off V-Sync, it doesnt look a great deal different, but it helps a great deal.

I went from doing my fights at 15-20FPS to 25-35FPS.

 Something's fishy...

6 out of 6 tests a winner against the D-6, but in the real fight, it's a loser against the same D-6.

EDIT:

If it's me, then

Active Texture Management

BD Armory

Better Time Warp

Dynamic Controls (dynamic deflection?)

FAR

GCMonitor

Kerbal Engineer Redux

Kerbal Flight Data

modded LV-T30

Modular Flight Integrator

Quick GoTo

Quick Scroll

RCS Build Aid

Stock Bug Fix Modules

Which of these mods should not belong???

Stock bug fix?

That's the most likely culprit; among other things, it alters some joint strengths (which can affect plane handling by altering stiffness, even if nothing breaks). I think it also messes with SAS a bit.

If you're having issues, set up a brand new install of the game, download fresh copies of FAR/DD/BDA, install those mods and nothing else.

The other possibility: make sure you've got no more than one each of chaff/flare, make sure min/default altitude is set to exactly 1410/2000, make sure top speed is set to exactly 399, make sure cockpit torque is disabled. Those are all details that I'm having to fix on submissions fairly regularly.

How do you set the values exact? Do you edit it in the craft file? If so, where?
