Hype!

Ok, that's it! I can't sit back and go to Duna with this much shuttle hype!! Next shuttle mission- Adding to the station!!! Happening when KSP loads up... without KJR (it was misbehaving), so this ought to be interesting. The SS may break under it's own weight... never flown it without KJR.

Thanks man! Tbh, names are not my forte :P . I just looked for names that sounded good and strong. Hence why a lot of the early orbiter are very Roman or Greek (with a few bland ones in there), such as Odyssey, or Hercules :) .

But thanks :) I'm hoping to get this going again soon.

Haha I know the feeling.

I have a few that turned out to be really good, and only ones a rip off from Star Trek!

Resolution

Constitution (Duh)

Archer

Highland

Columbus

Adventure

Aurora

Sigma (these last two are from Mercury)

Morgan

I usually look to nautical names for my ideas, seeing as spacecraft naming conventions typically borrow pretty heavily (if not outright copy) from terrestrial conventions.

Yeah Constitution was on my list, but the others- good idea!

Say, just out of curiosity, since I am providing you with the truss segments, would you consider using Nertea's Near Future Solar pack? I really like the large solar panels it has because they are far larger than the stock ones and more worthy of a station.

Id like to stay stock but we'll see. Right now I'm busy with the Apollo Recreation Mission Project, so until that is complete I cannot dedicate enough time to the SSM.

CLEAR

With that, I revive this old beast.

Welcome back to the Saturn Shuttle Program! After an extremely long break to further examine the orbiters after the horrible Horizons disaster, we have returned to continue the program. We are in the process of prepping SSM-10A under a new mission. To deploy 2 CubeSats into orbit, as well as releasing the AGILE (Advanced Guided Instrument Experiment) to perform remote control flight tests above Kerbin. It will also dock back to the orbiter to test the docking systems onboard AGILE and the orbiter. An important step as the following mission SSM-11 will be to dock to the StationCore that had been brought up on a prior mission. They will dock to the station and await for a heavy lift rocket to bring another module to the station. The orbiter's crew will oversee the docking procedures and then undock to the station and return home.

SSM-10A is a big mission as this is her return to soar back into the sky! :) So get ready to watch Inspiration spread her wings once again, as we prepare for SSM-10A, the long awaited return of the Saturn Shuttle Program!

SSM-10A is a success! Orbiter Inspiration lands on the KSC runway once again at 60m/s (slightly south, as usual). The crew reported that the orbiter performed perfectly. However, sometime during launch, one of the docking ports for the AGILE probe, fell off. The cause is unknown at this time, however the engineers are looking into it. This however did not impact the testing of the AGILE unit. Jean Kerman, technical engineer and the lead scientist of this mission, took control of the probe from the orbiter and flew it out of the payload bay and to dock the two vessels together. Then see undocked it and took it out to 1.5km distance from the orbiter to test communications. When she reached her peak distance, and the probe connection staying strong, she brought the probe back at a rushing 20m/s and fired the RCS retrothrusters to test the emergency braking systems. The probe fired it's thrusters 250m from the orbiter and came to a full stop 60m, proving the retrothrusters effective. After this, they began a retro burn and shortly before returning to Kerbin, they deployed the last of their CubeSats into orbit. Then they returned home at a brisk 2.1km/s, completing their voyage.

Now work begins to prep Nomad for her first launch into space after her heavy retrofit from the program's aerodynamic test model for the program during it's Approach and Landing Tests (ALTs). She was christened today in memory of the SSM-5 crew. The Nomad shuttle will take up what was Horizon's portion of the program. Starting with SSM-11.

SSM-11 is now on the launch pad and awaiting launch. The flight crew are getting suited up for the launch. Meanwhile, the booster and orbiter are being fueled for launch.

Also, the Odysseus (first picture) and Explorer (second picture) Test Vehicles are being phased into auction soon after decaying significantly in the KSC hangers and scrapyards.

We have confirmation, Nomad has docked to the StationCore above Kerbin! Now they wait for the new hardware to be launched up by a different space program. Once it arrives, Jabe Kerman will help direct the docking of the new incoming habitation module from an EMU. So stay with to hear more.

In the meantime, one of the flight crew members took these photos.

The crew onboard the station core have been patiently waiting for the next station module to be sent up, however the space program has just received word that the other program's rocket responsible for carrying the next module has exploded! They have said the reason is unknown, however they will be set back as they sort out the issue and rebuild the station module.

Meanwhile the crew onboard continues to wait. Thankfully they have enough life support to wait for the next segment.
