You know you've built a huge rocket, when ...

When it you cant have it entirely in the VAB.....

When you need 25 Rhino engines, and it still has a t/w ratio of 1.1...

When half the fuel tanks are empty because of "cosmetic" reasons...

When even launch clamps break...

I think you need bigger clamps. ;)

This should be in Forum Games, but whatever.

- When it crushes the launch pad under its weight before you even ignite anything.
- When part of its payload is an entire space station. No wait - TWO entire space stations. Much better.
- When it's more economical to just stick engines on the payload, use its fuel, and refuel it in space than to build and fly a launch vehicle for it.

(All three of these have actually happened to me xD)

There's a mod for enormous launch pads on KerbalStuff..

When you can see stars from the top capsule - at day.

When your engines overheat and explode before the rocket climbs above the flagpole.

When Record Keeping Society starts giving you money before you press Space for the first time.

When you ship reaches Jool and is still this big:

Some mysterious lights hundreds of km below

Wow geez. I thought my Jool-5 was pretty big at the time. It's actually puny in comparison (except it had 3.75m tanks to keep the part count down). :)

...at Pluto's apoapsis

Wouldn't it take slightly more deltaV to do it at perihelion? Because gravity from the sun is greater and you have to do a bigger injection burn because Pluto is going faster.

Anyway, you know you have a huge rocket when you can see the shadow from 10000m.

Not neccessarally, it sounds weird but, depending on Earths location, it would take a lot more delta v to get even close enough to Pultos apoapsis. And plus, Pluto isn't going very fast (something like 200m/s at perihelion).

When your rocket is over 50 parts (I do actually lag with anything over this)

When your rocket has quite a lot to do with Kerbodyne

When your rocket is subject to three SOIs at once (Kerbin, Mun, Minmus)

When you crash your plane into the rocket and the explosion destroys Kerbin.

That's still pretty darned epic though, getting anything that large to Jool is a bit of a mission.  None the less, yes many many parts.  832 parts to be precise comprising of:

28 Kerbals
1 Jool impactor Probe
6 satellites
4 Suborbital Hoppers
4 Rovers, each with 2 self controlled science probes
4 Bases
1 Laythe Aircraft
1 Kethane mining dropship to deliver base + rover to the moons
1 Jool orbital station with living quarters
1 Return to Kerbin ship with Science hab
1 Engine module which can be remotely operated (also stays in system)
1 Laythe Lander
1 Tylo Lander
2 RCS Robots

I think that's it.  So 36 or so individually controllable ships all built into one .  I used subassemblies to great effect!
