Flea Booster Distance Run

For what it is worth, my last entry already uses one stock exploit (not counting the command chair in a service bay), although I am not the first to use it in this challenge.  Without it I would still hold the record, but only just.

If it were to be combined with the launch clamp offset...

What was the exploit you used in the  submission? I'm curious since you said its not the command chair.

In case anyone is interested here's a 10 minute video of how I built an entry and flew it to the Island Airfield.

Craft file if you don't want to try and build one.

The basic premise is to have as little drag as possible. That's done with a low drag nose cone and angling the wings so they have built-in angle of attack (angle of incidence).

I'll gladly answer any questions.

@Val great video!  I was wondering if the weight of the tail cone would be worthwhile for the extremely low drag.  There's an interesting balance appearing here, since the total engine power for the challenge is fixed we are getting some interesting payload and aero solutions.

Here's my drone entry - 129.6 Km ground distance. I think I could definitely manage more - but I'd been through 4-5 designs at this point and was too tired to care :)

Kind of a boring video - I tried to keep in attitude adjustment bits for people to use in their own attempts. All stock, did have KJR and KER running, of course.

Distance traveled: 8.9 km, I could probably get better, if... I had control surfaces to glide better, the only thing the wings did was keep it from flipping out. (Remember, this is the Demo) :)

Tip: leave kerbin's soi

Job done easy as pi

If you can leave Kerbin SOI using a single Flea, then you, sir are a better rocket scientist than I. :)

@Spaceception good attempt with the demo version. You technically didn't make the 12km for easy mode, but I'll give you an honorary  mention. If you try again, spam those fins in mirror symmetry mode. Take a look at the entry that had lots of tiny fins that got a decent range

IMO any challenge of "Manned" (or "Kerballed") should exclude the use of command seats or stuffing them in service bays, because those are just loopholes to get around the whole point of the challenge - that manned capsules weigh significantly more than probes.
