35 seconds as well. And with 1400 m/s left.

I could get even more acceleration by putting a bit less fuel in the tanks, but below say 20.000 m more acceleration means exploding rockets due to overheating

Just about managed to do it in 35 seconds, but had to sacrifice it being manned to do it.

Would anyone be interested in a modified version of this?  I'm thinking of the same rules. With the following additions:

1. Must be manned

2. Must return safely to kerbin surface

Additional points for number of crew members on board.  All crew must return safely

Sounds interesting, although one of the attractions of the current challenge is that it's so quick to try things out, i.e 35(ish) seconds of flight time and you know if you have a success and adding a landing component would extend this time a lot. However it would still be one of the quicker challenges around.

I have a GIANT stack of SRBs. Can't remember the time, but it was really fast. I can see if I can get photos of it.

For those who are interested in this challenge I can recommend linuxgurugamer's Fastest time to space and return challenge.

It has the fun speed elements and only takes a few minutes to make attempts at it, but doesn't have the "oh no, I can't get that extra 1/4 second" element, as it's a bit more complicated, so more places to make up time.

@Nefrums, did you consider using all shielded docking ports instead of nosecones?

yes I did in my first attempt.   But the second is to fast and even the docking port overheated, so i had to use the heat shield.

It was a tough call and I think we all agree that we broke KSP psychics

Had to exclude spacebrick3 2nd attepmt as it was inspired by another design.

And it was a close call spacebrick3 between Mesklin and but for simplicity points spacebrick3 got it,
