As you can see, I was far from being the only one. Except I stayed pretty much far away from anybody,  while those people on boats...

 

 

 

 

As usual, Atlas V is the "race car" of all launchers at the Cape. Always astonishing to look at.

Alas, the Clamagore's state and fate are still pretty much dark. Three years ago the county's commissioners have voted to sink her as an artificial reef, but some of her ex-sailors have tried to save her by suing the county a year ago.

I recently went for a "hike" (all 15 minutes of it, from the parking lot)) with the dog up Mt Thom (all 475m of it; more of a foothill, really). Here's some Canon pics of the view from the top:

The wide view across the valley. Mt Sumas (910m) is on the left.

Across the valley with some zoom (lens, not the app). The green lump in front of the blue-ish looking 1221m Nicomen mountain range is Chilliwack Mountain (all 353m of it). Unless it just rained, the mountains always look a bit hazy here. My home is somewhere in this pic...

Turn less than 90 degrees and there's Cultus Lake:

As one probably noticed, I found a map showing the height of the peaks in the area. So I can add heights to the peaks I've posted previously: Mt Cheam (2112m, Rush's favorite peak maybe?) and Mt Slesse (2429m).

My wife gave me grief for not taking any pics of the dog. It didn't even cross my mind. Besides, hard to get a decent dog pic while holding the leash. No good backdrop for her on that hike anyways: all bushes. As if we don't have enough pics of her already. At least I brought water for her...

Took a few photos from the launch attempt yesterday. None are very good (taken with a phone camera) and are all in different orientations, but hey. 

VAB, as well as some of those pesky storm clouds. The weather was really quite beautiful, wavering between rain and clear with a nice, consistent breeze. Too bad that's incompatible with rockets.

Fun fact: holding a phone up to a pair of binoculars, focusing them, and taking a picture requires use of your nose.

Steamy stuff coming from the rocket (not visible) shortly before word of the scrub passed around.

It's not exaggerating to say that there were at least seven ospreys with catfish. Maybe the fish just wanted to get a good vantage point on the launch?

Oh, and a manatee. It looked like he was trying to do sit-ups to reach this mangrove, and after quite a few tries he finally got it.

Went out hiking near Stevens Pass on Monday. The snowpack's been melting slowly this year, and there are still snow patches and snowfields everywhere in the Cascades. The actual hike ended up being more of an adventure than I'd bargained for (I lost the trail in a snowfield on the way back down, ended up on the wrong side of a ridge, and had to bushwhack my way up and over to get back on the trail), but the view from the summit was beyond gorgeous.

There's that snow I mentioned. Needless to say I kept well away from those nasty-looking cornices.

Got a nice view of Glacier Peak, which I was quite pleased about given how isolated and remote it is. Definitely not something I get to see every day.

I looked into my archives and found some pictures I totally forgot about...

 

I cannot remember precisely where the following were taken apart the French Alps around 2008.

 

 

 

 

 

Just wandering around Mt. Ventoux, at an approximate height of 1900 m only.

That radome is dedicated to ATC. Less known is the strategic forces command center which used to lie inside the mount itself (Cheyenne Mountain style).

I was going into this thing semi-panicking (battery about to run out), so they're not the best images. Still, you can see it.

And while I'm not going to post it, out-of-focus stars also look nice. Looks more like a painting than a photograph, but I actually kinda like it!

I was doing some gardening when I hear "plat plat plat" and was visited by this guy.

I didn't know they make an almost cat like sound when under stress (at least I assume that's why it was making noises that wasn't ribbit) as we splashed it a bit to try and get it out of the 34c sun.

He found a new home in the end

Here's some of my summer trip to the central/western part of Norway.

Some where I was staying in Hol.

This one on my way there.

First night at Hol, it was the day after midsummer and this was at 1am.

Dinner earlier that evening.

The weather when I left Hol... not quite as nice a drive as the 27 degrees with clear blue skies I had on the way there.

On my way from Hol to Flåm/Aurlandsvagen... about to go up into the mountains.

It was actually pretty warm up here, well it was late June.

Took this on the way back to Hol. When I passed this on the way out to Flåm the water in this little lake was the blue-est thing I've ever seen.

Now I've crossed the top, time to head down there.

Okay, these pics may not be of the same stunning quality of other pics in this thread, but what the hey. I had my dog out for what I call "night ops;" fetch at night with a phosphorescent ball and a light on her collar. Then I decided to try out the camera on my iPhone 12...

All set for night ops, with a shredded gaga-ball she found and school lights in the background:

 Then I remembered hearing something about night mode...

Not bad actually, considering the nearest light besides her s is at least 100m away

Last weekend we went took our new-to-us 2017 RV on its maiden voyage. Nestled in the mountains at the end of the Fraser Valley, there's a little town where the mighty Fraser turns west for its final run into the Salish Sea. We followed the Fraser River towards the Fraser Canyon and quickly found our campsite, across the highway from the river.

Back in town, I went looking for this town's claim to fame, the movie character that put it on the map (well, some maps anyways). That popular movie also kickstarted BC's movie industry (AKA Hollywood North). At the Memorial park in the center of town, we found a bunch of nice carvings. These are just a few...

And finally, the guy that put this town on the big screen. I doubt many of the younger generation will recognize him, but I'm sure my contemporaries here will...

That night, guess what the movie was? I had to introduce my boys to that classic movie, of course.

And the town, well, once you go past it, you're beyond Hope...

I see, an orange Moon arising....

Wildfires in the area have smoke blowing down the valley, making for an orange moon...

Once I saw it, I had to wait to get home to pull out my Canon to get a decent pic, as my phone wouldn't zoom in enough and just showed an bright orange disc. As a result, it wasn't as deeply orange as when I first saw it.

Had to play with settings to get a decent exposure. And then I messed around with a really long exposure setting...
