The KSP team is completely falling apart right now.

Oh look, more whining...

Newer team members is actually a good thing. TBH, there's not much a new team could screw up at this point, with the majority of the core features set in stone. In fact, it could mean fresh ideas might come along.

Besides, 1.2 is looking pretty good so far. I myself can't wait for the redesigned rocket engines.

The old guard leaves, new blood comes in. In all honesty I would be more worried about KSP'S future if the same folks stuck around until they were all too burned out on the project.

KSP deds have stuck around longer than most.  They should have been leaving around 1.0 (or something, .90 devnotes still feel like yesterday to me) if they had average values.  And I think that at least one of the leaving devs said they come back when SQUAD makes a new game.

I know. HarvesteR, Ted, and now KasperVld leave and not one new person except Nightingale, taniwha, and Roverdude.

Actually, I've been around doing stock stuff since just after 0.90 released

You also have NathanKell, TriggerAu, TheClaw, Sarbian, Roy, and very likely some others that I am forgetting.

Haha I just picked the first 3 "new" names on the most recent devnotes. I still consider 0.90 "recent" even though I shouldn't. :D

Not saying this to be snarky, but it might be in the best interests of someone on the staff to address this so that we stop having these community panic attacks when a staff member is liquidated moves on to other projects.  It seems to me the problem is disproportionate visibility - when a staff member dies tragically in a staged accident leaves the team, there is a big send-off page written by Squad's PR people the staff member who is leaving, whereas when new talent is hired, it often slips under the radar.  Thus, people see the exits, but they don't really notice the new hires unless they're really paying attention.

Hey um op? Squads a company. Coding is hard. People come. People go. Are they falling apart? In a way yes. The same way our bodies do as old cells fall away and newer shinier ones step in. It's growth. It's a good sign.

Some people want to make new things.

Its like to build a new house, from the scratch.

you see the growing.

and if its done, its done.

yes, there are always things to improve.

but thats not new.

(cynic people say: "flee bevore they find the bugs" :D )

and KSP has become a status of a good working game.

I know, right?  Not a single awesome modder has joined the team.  Might as well close up shop and sell to EA.

Its already sold over steam, so EA and Microsoft dont want to buy this game.

(ore are there EA/Microsoft games on steam ? :P )

They aren't really. We've got some really talented devs on the team now, and 1.2 is shaping up to be incredible!

I like the fact that they are making their own version of the "Nice to have" mods out there.

  • Fuel Pumps (although not as good as "GPOSpeedFuelPump"... yet)
  • Portrait Stats
  • Field Experience
  • Science Containers
  • Quantum Struts (via the auto-strutting of parts)

Obviously we are getting an awesome stock RemoteTech (Only missing the flight computer)

It really makes you think:  "What's coming next time?  KER? OPM? FireSpitter? Some kind of optional LifeSupport?" -- who knows !
Throw in the fact that 1.2 will be the "multi-hundred-parts" optimization many of us have been hoping for years.

Great team !

No need to jump down the OPs throat (although perhaps "falling apart" was a tad too strong).

It *is* worrying, especially to someone who, say, *doesn't* have much experience in business, when the project that you are very excited about and have been following for a long time goes through some quite significant changes, when there hadn't been any major changes of the ilk for quite some time.

As normal as it may be, several team members being replaced *is* quite significant for the project.

Normally I'd say "Would be nice to hear a word of reassurance from the Devs" or somesuch.

BUT, in this case, (Well firstly Im sure they HAVE offered such reassurance multiple times in the dev notes) I wouldn't blame a company from saying that even if there *was* something to worry about.

So sit tight, the updates are still coming in and high quality content is still visibly heading our way.

Test it empirically - the KSP team will be "falling apart" once their output starts to fall away.

Has it? No. (No snarky comments about bugs or update lead-times, those issues are a constant).

Things come, things go.

Also, if they are able to make this whole 1.2. PR, we don't really have to worry.

Working on the game core itself is way harder than making a mod.

The team isn't falling apart. Some people get bored in doing the same thing and eventually move on. This is perfectly normal. It's like when someone gets really interested in cars but then they get bored after awhile and so they move to planes, history, etc.

There should be no more worrying. If a member leaves, it is his choice, not yours. as long as the game exists we will be happy.

End of the story. No more posts like this.
