a mod, as it say, to add filters for several groups to the editor.

but thats not what causing it.

I split' my install/mods into 3 separate installdirs.

each install is working fine, but as soon as i copy the mods of one install to the other, it starts flickering - and just when copying part-mods.

filterextensions is a mod that i think allows you to create custom categories etc, ive never used it.

its not the cause anyhow if you do have/ get it.

i'll wait until it annoys the squad dev's enough that they look at it :wink:

ive asked what they want us to do about this in unmodded thread, but no answer, so im not wasting anymore of my life on it. lol

Getting this UI problem aswell as i cant seem to launch with 1.2-2 TWR, seems fine when i remove all the mods, i do have a number of them installed.

I'm back to my original mod-heavy install, after not being able to nail it down to more than the consensus of "part and/or mod heavy" is the trigger for the problem.

I have noticed that the tile bar will appear again in the VAB if you keep bouncing your mouse from above the bar down into the bar area in different spots.  Move the mouse up, left or right off the tile it's on, and the bar disappears again.

You can see the tiles and put your finger below it to mark where it is.  Bounce the mouse up and back down in the same spot, it won't work.  At random (it seems) another tile is now the trigger where the tiles re-appear.  But I can't determine any pattern to the 'trigger tile'.

For now I'm just putting a finger on the monitor bezel and moving the mouse there to select an icon. :confused:  I guess one can make a paper template and tape that to your monitor once you get your mod selections completed.  (Or pray that Blizzy updates the toolbar mod!)

EDIT: Having said that, about an hour ago Blizzy posted an updated tooldbar!

I have not had a chance to fully stress test this but forcing directx11 seems to have made the editor less prone to flickering. You can google the precise command but it's something like: 

-force -d3d11

Rover, I don't think this can be produced on a 100% stock install unless you had a ginormous save file and had been playing for hours and hours. The number of parts seems to be strongly correlated with encountering this bug.   CRP could also be playing a role as it substantially increases the number of resources handled by the editor. 

Forcing Directx11 seems to help but I  haven't had a chance to fully test this. I spent the morning troubleshooting Ven's Revamp and other things and so never had a prolonged building session in the editor. The other thing which helps, albeit to a lesser degree, is Padishar's MemGraph tool which allows you to pad the GC heap.

I'm having the same problem. :(

Hopefully @RoverDude will fix it! He makes one of the biggest and most popular part mod constellations out there, so it's in his best interest to track this down. *cheers on RoverDude*

In easily 100+ hours of beta testing of 1.2 stock however, I never once noticed this issue, and I was playing in Sandbox, so all parts were unlocked the entire time. I've had dozens of missions up in the air at once, including large space stations, planetary mining operations, and missions scattered all over the Kerbol system, so I honestly don't think it'll ever happen in Stock.

@RoverDude I also have a sneaking suspicion that this may be a closely related bug to the long-standing one where some mouse-over items in the VAB/SPH get "stuck" sometimes.

I do remember seeing some minor flickering like this, though not this bad, in 1.1.2 and 1.1.3, and going all the way back to 1.0. So it may not be a -new- bug in 1.2, but just something that got worse because of changes in what kinds of things are being processed in the editor.

perhaps the new categories break this whole thing.

after hours of testing i have a max possible list, after that even a 4 parts mod brings me back to flickering. KAS is too much in this setup, also kis/kas disabled and planetary bases will flicker.

this is my list with 37 mods:

Edit: Force DX11, no effect, the 38th mod with parts does flicker.

Hmm... some more investigation...

The "flickering" in the parts lists seems to actually be a layering error. While it "flickers" the background of the parts list, and the window border along the top of the screen moves in front of, and completely conceals, everything else. You can still see the Launch, Save, Open, etc buttons -behind- the top bar where they peek out beneath it.

The vanishing/flickering of the tray icons is not connected at all to the flickering in the parts list. The two can happen entirely separately, or together. However, context menus on the basic stock tools (contracts for example) are only blank while the mod tray is invisible, and have text when the mod tray is visible again. Possible DirectDraw error?

Changing to DX11 had no noticeable effect at all for me. If there's a difference, it's beyond my ability to detect.

It -seems- (though I'm having a heck of a time confirming this) that anything that uses the Unity skin is immune to the flickering... but things like Blizzy's toolbar don't flicker even if it's using the KSP skin, so I'm not sure. I can say for certain that nothing with the Unity skin flickers, but that may simply be a coincidence that only mods use the Unity skin, and none of the mods flicker (except for their icons in the stock AppLauncher tray). Still, it's enough to make me wonder if it may be a glitch in Unity having to do with using two skins simultaneously.

I have the same issue on MacOS.  The parts categories flicker, and also the text from the contracts and engineering windows disappear.  Any mod toolbar buttons also disappear.  This only occurs in modded installs, does NOT occur in stock.

Yeah, we've had confirmations in MacOS, Linux x64, and Windows x64 on Windows 7 and 10 at this point. Methinks it's a Unity glitch then.

Can anyone confirm this is happening when Interstellar Fuelswitch or Interstellar Fuelswitch core is not installed. When I remove that the flicker stops, but when I do I also have to remove a parts mod that is dependent on IFS so I can't confirm if it's the lack of IFS or the fact of a smaller parts count.

I don't use either of those mods and I have the weirdness.
