Planet textures flickering

Recommended Posts

On Vall and Minimus (so far) I have noticed the textures go multicolured and flicker. I thought it was the biomes bleeding through but I think it is something more

Version: 1.2.1 64-bit Linux (Manjaro Linux running AMD CPU and GPU)

What happens: When below 5000 meters or so the landscape of the planets go rainbow

Steps to Replication:

1) Set orbit over Vall/Minimus

2) Get below 3000 meters (the effect starts being the most visible around there)

3) Watch the descent into the rainbow

Result: The planets texture will go like the image below

KSP Version: 1.1.2.1604 (Windows x64)

What Happens: planet texture change

Mods / Add-Ons: KerbalEngineerRedux, KerbalAlarmClock, TransferWindowPlanner, Chatterer

Steps to Replicate:

1) Make an SSTO

2) Fly it to Jool

3) pray to get a good gravity assist from Thylo or Lythe to get bop encounter

4) set orbit around Bop between 23 and 25km

5) make a visual survays of the surface as u r looking for a landing spot

Result: at some point the Bop surface texture become strage and differs of the textures around

AMD again...

This is what it's meant to look like, and how it looks on Linux nvidia drivers, if I recall correctly the AMD Radeon control thing has a slider to set the graphics between high quality and high performance, make sure it's on high quality.

Edit:

Hmm, I found a spot showing the colour issue here @crackerbal, but this looks unrelated to Lobes issue.

@sal_vager do you mean installing the catalyst control gui?

I don't think that'll help you to be honest, what I see in your pic makes me think "Bad GPU driver", I'd like to know what card you're using and what driver specifically.

Also does starting KSP with -force-glcore or -force-gfx-direct fix this?

Looks stable now, thanks for the fix

I'm glad it worked, forcing glcore forces the Unity engine to detect the highest version of OpenGL on the system, and to use that, it's supposed to do this automatically but sometimes fails and has to be forced again via this command.

You can use a shell script to start KSP with that line every time, or add it to the launch options in Steam.

Hi All,

Think I am seeing the same thing, so I thought I would add another data point to the discussion.

Setup:
- OS: Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon (64-bit)
- Proc: AMD A8-3500M
- Graph:  Radeon HD 6620G (integrated)
- Driver:  xsderver-xorg-video-ati (open source)
- KSP 1.2.0 .x86_64

1)  First noticed the terrain color error on Minmus in modded install
2)  Copied save file to stock install
3)  Loaded save and accessed craft landed on Minmus from Tracking Station (see image below)
4)  Created a new save
5)  Used stock hyperedit to transfer craft to Minmus

(This is a fairly minor version of this effect, a more pronounced effect was the entire surface turning red, but I did not have a screenshot.)

As @lobe noted, this effect comes into play below 3000 m on Minmus especially on the dark side (have not observed on Kerbin or Mun).  One thing to add here is that I have seen this both in flight mode and map view.  Also this did not occur previously in 1.1.3.

Not sure if this will help, but an image of the Graphics settings UI.  Let me know if logs would help at all.

Below is my desktop shortcut launch script.  Where would I add -force-glcore or -force-gfx-direct, please?

#! /bin/sh
cd "/home/******/Games/Kerbal Space Program"
./KSP.x86_64
