I'm not to late to join the party am I? I've binge read about half the pages in this topic, and decided I have to try. It will be fun designing and testing a rover, and then trying to complete this course when I've never made a working rover before.:D

Any tips?

Welcome!

Tips: be sure to thoroughly test your rover. You aren't too late to the party, but there's still time to run the stages, should you have a few 30 minute gaps in your life to do it.

Be sure to share a pic or two :)

Plenty of time.

Be sure to read this topic as well, we've been crossposting a lot and there's some very valuable information on how to build & tune.

Heya @Triop, when can we expect the "W.I.P." Banner be removed? It seems we've addressed many issues, or at least they have been voiced. I was wondering when you might be finalizing them all into the OP? (Or an official race thread, if that's what your up to). I'm sure you're busy with the holidays and all, just figured i'd ask. It would be cool to start looking at who is in the same class as me, etc.. I suppose I'm just a little bit competitive, after all :)

Yeah, me too. I'm usually not competitive ... In this case there's nothing to gain except honing my own skills so ... now I am!

Well ... maybe I like the attention too.

I think this challenge has put some life back into KSP for many of us

I can see this Dakar idea going all over the place, even so far as the other planets

I was thinking Kerbal Racing League. We meet at the drive-in on Thursdays and Saturdays :P .

No weapons, ya heathens.

I can assure you that the idea of weaponizing the B4-R and the Beaver has been brewing in the back of my mind

I think that we at the BDAc Development Group could definitely garner some useful information from a weaponized version of this challenge

Any tips?

1) TEST TEST TEST! It's probably the most important thing to do. If you don't test and you wreck out on stage 1, Game over mate.

2) Add a 'Roll-cage' to keep you from losing your kerbals in a massive part-shedding, exploding fiery wreck.

3) GOOD LUCK! You're gonna need it.

My tips would be to add a well protected self righting mechanism (I use a landing leg) as rolling over seems highly likely. Also I would add redundancies so you have a spare battery or two incase you loose one.

Good luck

OH! Also, one reason that I've not got pics up are because I don't want people looking at my designs  Also, I (may) (Or may not) Have done THAT much testing. I know, call this,

I will open an official Kerbal Dakar 2017 thread on January 1st.

As soon as it's up I will announce it here.

Finishing with it ... that would be a challenge by itself.

A jet powered Caddilac......yeah go for it. Hopefully you'll sacrifice cloud-like ride for bump resistance. :D

Ride height would be an issue, but cool ain't free.

But just remember this famous quote:

"Any explosion is worth a million bucks. Especially when the ship that exploded is worth a million bucks." -Jebediah Kerman after the failed launch of his first rocket.

I'm thinking of adding a rule that says you can only run the rally once, meaning once you uploaded your time you can not re-run the rally to do a better time until 2018.

I want to do this to prevent 1 single person sitting on 1st, 2nd, 3th place on the leaderboard.

What do you think ?

Edit: What I can do is let you race it again with a other car you designed.

I say just 1 entry per participant per class.

That would be good, but maybe like it's the fastest time only counts. That prevents afore mentioned 1st 2nd and 3rd finishing.

But that will give me the problem that I have to check the challenge all year to see if some one did better...

I guess I can give the challenge a deadline: Feb 1st.

Setting this up is harder then I thought it would be
