[1.3.0] [Kopernicus] Interstellar Adventure Revived v1.2.9 - A Taste of the Upcoming Grand Update! [18August17]

Hey guys, I am looking for a mod that adds more solar systems. I tried KSS and GN, and now want to try this IAR - but I saw several posts back in this thread, saying that IAR peaks up RAM usage (and I already have very heavily modded install, and very little spare RAM), so my question is, is it worth even trying then? With KSS, I had game load times up to 15-20 minutes. Is IAR going to be the same in that regard? :D Is it heavy on RAM?

having an issue as well.  Upgraded from 1.3 to 1.3.1, all mods were tested individually to make sure they worked w 1.3.1.  i also got the forever loading screen when I reinstalled IAR.  Also tried using an older ver of kopernicus just incase but i know that its game version specific.  anyone have any ideas or experience the same issue?

IAR is known to completely break in KSP 1.3.1 unless I'm mistaken. The dev is aware.

I have not installed this mod for myself recently, but it's not nearly gigantic in any way as KSS is so it should be easy on your RAM.

This mod eats ram, not because of any problem with the mod, but with the sheer scope of how many new stars, planets, and moons it adds.  I've thought about stripping it down manually to just TRAPPIST-1 and Thallo, but I'm waiting for a 1.3.1-compatible version.  Unfortunately there are terrain/biome issues with the planets which, at least in 1.3.0, prevented colonization of them, but hopefully that will be resolved in the update as well.

This mod is compatible with KSP 1.3.1, but just remember to use the latest version of Kopernicus.

I'm hoping to eventually give all the planets biomes and maybe convert their textures to .dds files, which take up MUCH less space that .png files. However, not only is that a huge undertaking, but with the recent death of my cat I'm not too sure when I'll get back to KSP modding. I have a lot of kerbal genocide "experiments" to get out of my system, which may or may not involve throwing kerbals down the Mohole.

I have the forever loading screen despite using the latest kopernicus. In the log it just repeats this thousands of times over:

[EXC 18:28:34.829] NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
    Kopernicus.Components.KopernicusStar.LateUpdate ()

I have made sure to install it absolutely correctly.

This mod is explicitly incompatible with Kopernicus for 1.3.1. Try KSP & Kopernicus 1.3.0.

According to Protojeb, it is compatible.

@Asmodeous Players must be getting fooled and setup for trouble then, attempting to use the bundled Kopernicus 1.3.0-4 in KSP 1.3.1.

Experience tells me it is bad practice for planet modders to include Kopernicus in their downloads. I also believe it's the Kopernicus dev's wish that Kopernicus not be bundled. It saves everyone a little trouble if the user always firstly goes to Kopernicus' download area and pick the version for their KSP. Or, it becomes clear much sooner whether there's a fault on the planet modder's side or the Kopernicus side.

As for this mod, it is not to be expected to work well beyond Kopernicus 1.3.0-4 as it dos not have sunlight curves which were introduced in Kopernicus 1.3.0-6. No curves = infinite light from every star.

to Add to what @JadeOfMaar said:

kopernicus is version locked, so using the bundled Kopernicus won’t work beyond 1.3.0.

there have been a lot of changes to Kopernicus that require changes to the cfgs of this planet pack (sun curves). Using the latest Kopernicus will not work right for the mod.

a potential work around would be to try Kopernicus 1.3.1-1. The current cfgs for this mod might work with it. Or, if it’s an option, roll back to 1.3.0

Looks like I’m going to have to release version 1.3.0a soon. It’ll have working configs and stellar brightness curves, and will work for KSP 1.3.1 and Kopernicus 1.3.1-6. It’s essentially just going to be what I have done so far for the full 1.3.0 version of the mod, minus EVE and Scatterer (those are still in dev). Keep in mind that 1.3.0a will be nowhere near a complete, finished update.

Updated: Awesome! If you could update it to KSP v1.4.3 also, that would be perfect. I love using this mod with my Alcubierre warp drives.

I really miss this mod. My interstellar adventures have been on hold since I'm using KSP v1.4.3, and not sure I should try this. Any progress with updating this mod? Anyone know of any workarounds to get it working for the newest Kopernicus and KSP v1.4.3?

I'm very open to suggestion. :)

@ProtoJeb21 Any word on updating this wonderful, wonderful mod? If not, could you point me to any information on updating mods to current versions and the work entailed.

Honestly, I doubt I’ll get back to this anytime soon. One of the main issues is that Kittopia Tech, which helps with creating and editing planets in mods like this, doesn’t work with the latest version of KSP. It only functions properly in 1.3.2 or 1.3.3, and I don’t have enough space on my computer at the moment for a copy of the game in that version (mainly because of the exactly 8,888 KSP screenshots I need to get rid of). So, until I can work around the Kittopia problem, I won’t be able to return to this mod, even though I want to finish it.

Have you seen the thread title, bruh? They merged. :sticktongue:

Yeah I saw, but I just can’t seem to get the latest version of Kittopia to work with KSP 1.4.5. I can open it just fine, but I can’t open the “scaled version” section to update my planet’s mesh.
