Which is why they made not one but two passes, to demonstrate that they can, plus 6+ hours coast time, plus several hours post-TMI... I think you’re missing my point, that all that adds up to a direct GSO delivery once reshuffled.

That's hours in the belts, not months.  The few craft that have flown out of LEO on ions haven't lead to many more.  I'm fairly sure it was seriously expensive to send Dawn into an escape trajectory when she had plenty of km/s delta-v on board.

Um... what?  Commsats going to GSO don't spend months in the Van Allens either...

That's because they are deposited more or less directly there (instead of starting at LEO and taking months to get to GSO).  Although in this case I think it is more about getting an expensive satellite up and working and not spending months slowly getting into position (let alone being damaged by the belts).

For mass efficiency you would start at LEO and slowly work your way up, but very occasionally in this business mass efficiency != cost efficiency.

I'm pretty sure that a 2 burn hohmann transfer is more Delta-V efficient than slowly spiraling out... Although using ion drives to spiral out would be more mass efficient due to their efficiency, but not as Delta-V efficient or cost efficient... The point is mostly moot as SpaceX's stage is not ion powered.

I feel like every space nerds will do this.

What if they deploy these from the aft cargo of bfr?

Probably too small, maybe the cargo ships though.

I just realized

Paradox predicted the future :D

Will he send this to Mars?

Of course.
Otherwise how should they cut the Martian trees when they grow?
SpaceX always looks two steps ahead.

P.S.
Probably they have left the idea of docking and decided to attach mechanical arms to Dragon for self-berthing.

P.P.S.
Wasn't that space Tesla driver the first one?

Not to mention gazillion of manga and anime titles with giant mecha :) As a fan, i have to say: future looks better and better :D

Like the 20 odd years of source material that the Battletech 2018 game was based on. :)

Still - all the pieces are coming together. BFR is intended to land what, 100 tons on Mars? Not quite enough for a lance of scout ‘Mechs  but enough for landing one of all but the largest assault ‘Mech. Not quite a Leopard but getting there!  Neurohelmet research is underway too but Musk had better get cracking on those miniature fusion reactors if he wants to build a proper Battlemech. :)

Although if he does pull that off and anyone spots some anomalous power outputs from them... well it could be time to invest in germanium.
