Guest
Super interesting results of the test fire anomaly. SpaceX seem to excel at finding these strange cases and blowing up a heap of stuff in the process XD 6 hours ago, mikegarrison said: Yeah. Better to burn methane than just let it loose. The CO2 from burning it is much less of a greenhouse gas than the CH4 itself is. Less stinky too >_< Edited July 16, 2019 by Guest

Wjolcz
Apparently the hop has been delayed. Better safe than sorry, I guess?

Guest
@tater? (why the link? A bit late to test flight isnt it? most dramatic time of day to try and contain a field of flaming wreckage tho. but daytime is probably more practical.) Ultimate Steve
Today is a static fire, not the hop. If the static fire goes well, they are aiming to hop tomorrow.
Ultimate Steve
Was watching hopper stream. Large fireball just engulfed the hopper. It's still there. Not sure if that was a methane leak or what? Did not seem normal, made no sound according to Tim Dodd. Update. Starhopper did a static fire and then caught on fire afterwards, the fireball was part of the fire I think? Ultimate Steve
Fire is out now. Chris B is calling it off nominal. I don't think we will see a hop tomorrow. Video of the fireball:

mikegarrison
"Off nominal"? Well, that's one way to put it.
CatastrophicFailure
Some good high speed, hi-rez footage here: Looks like the umbilical hookup is on fire right after the engine burn, there’s some bits of flaming debris too, then water hits the umbilical and all hell breaks loose. Literally.

NSEP
What i think was a Methane purge/leak at the wrong moment, and the water flash-evaporated some of the Methane, resulting in a bigger fire. They definitely need this day to investigate and look for damage, so i don't expect a hop today.
cubinator
If it turns out not to cause any damage they could just leave it a la Delta IV Heavy.
