JoeSchmuckatelli
Why would those seams not have tiles?
RCgothic
Presumably to allow access for weld inspections after test fire. I expect they'll be covered before launch.
sevenperforce
The six hexagonal tiles under the SpaceX logo are Starlink comm antennae, right?

Thermal sensors iirc, the Starlink antenna is the oval at the bottom of the pic. I do know that B7 has a couple on the small HPU aerocovers near the base.

StrandedonEarth
B7 has been quieter than I expected. Thought there would have been some sort of tests underway by now, before stacking. I guess they’re making sure everything is perfect…

I guess they’re making sure everything is perfect… Today should be the beginning of static fire related testing I heard, with spin up tests of the R2s mounted. Then there's preburners, then maybe next week the first firings? Edited July 6, 2022 by Beccab

Brotoro
Did SpaceX explain why they painted parts of the Starship black? Not that I'm complaining, since it will make it much easier to paint a simple model rocket version of it (as opposed to having to paint the ragged edge pattern of the tiles). Could be purely for aesthetics, I suppose. Or maybe that's ablative paint to compensate for any plasma spillover from the tiles. Finally, blackbodies radiate better than anything else, so maybe they painted the regions closest to the heat shield black to allow them to re-radiate heat away more efficiently. That last one might be a stretch but you never know. 4 hours ago, Beccab said: Is it just me or do those grid fins look like they have shorter chord length than earlier iterations for Superheavy? RCgothic
This is B4 from the closest angle I could find. Overall size is hard to tell. The cells on B7 are definitely closer packed.
