Also, interesting rhetoric from Borisov at a G20 space get-together in India: he's now positioning ROS(S) as a potential international space station.

So, the orbital station will be Indian-Russian, the lunar base Chinese-Russian?

Makes sense.

P.S.

When I was writing here a couple of years ago that the lunar base will be not a 3d-printed hipster camp with fancy crystal domes, but a trench fortress protected with sandbags, they were thinking, I'm joking.

They are always thinking, I'm joking. Who knows, why...

But the thing is, our Indian friend's manned spacecraft still delaying. On a purely technical level thinking, I think currently to 3~5 years later, India may be more likely to be involved in some experimental racks rather than a module. After all, "Indian time" is an elusive thing in every field.

Sounds to me like an admission that external funding would be required for this prestige project to get off the ground.

The problem is that most of the G20 countries would rather throw their money in with the ISS than with Russia. Or in the case of China, do their own thing instead.

Soon to the Moon.

Is this the longest gap between sequentially numbered spacecraft in history?

Maybe. Since Apollos stopped flying in early 1970s, the Luna park didn't have immediate purpose till now.

together don't have a Soyuz rocket, so Russia is going to do this alone. :(

Alright place your bets folks!

I bet that it absolutely doesn't play a role if this exact instance fails or wins. Its modified 1F platform is what's really important.

(I saw that Moon last evening. Nothing special to fly there just for flag.)

Fair point. The rest of the world aren't going to restrict their station's orbit to the rather limited set of parameters that can be reached by that 1960's piece of junk either.

It was an earlier design, but yes, several failed tests are better than one random success.

As a last chance Russia can ask Norway for help.

They are good in drakkars.

(As the coming ROSS will be in polar LEO, so Scandinavia is the closest place)

Sever, a very early cislunar predecessor to the Soyuz.

Nice, it's called after the fridge, cuz the space is cool, and it's cold in space.
Also it's small, streamlined, and keeps the meat fresh inside.

I thought it was originally related to a LEO space station.

A lunar flyby and LEO interceptor.

Being a part of the complex ("Soyuz" / "Union", i.e. "joint"), received its name.

Given the kind of thought processes that went into names of other Soviet equipment - including a certain bouquet, a whole garden, really - I'm not willing fo discount that possibility.

After all, the very term "rocket" came from the Soviet vacuum cleaner.

P.S.

Btw, notice the similarity of its shape and Almaz modules.

P.P.S.
The rocketry sound effects are also adopted from this device.

I don't know why, but the first sight of this thing reminded me of this:

Doesn't have to be this thing, just, well, some weird little bug I can't think for a second.

Roscosmos has recently hired bots on VK. It's not an accusation I make lightly, but I've just watched two batches of space-related but off-topic copypasta show up after the mention of the Apollo landings, and I have no better explanation.

The thread video is title "Небо выбрало нас" "The heaven has chosen us" , where "небо" is both "sky" and "heaven", so somebody or something was triggered by the word "небо", treating it as "sky"
Sky means space, space means cosmos, cosmos means Roscosmos.
