Career WITH STORY LINE!!! (And Cutscene off course)

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone it's your boy Mukita and I'm Realized That KSP is getting more boring with the old Game mode Like..... We need add More Game Mode like adding Story mode (Like you at the beginning when you play this mode there is a cutscene and then when you Launch your 1st Rocket and have Cutscene and ETC but after you done that achievement) but we still have the old Mode like Sandbox, Science, Scenario, And OF COURSE! Career mode.

I hope you Appreciate my Suggestion for The Next Update or maybe Future Update and that's it my Name Mukita and Cya

PS. Sorry for bad Grammar also If you hate my suggestion for future update

I just make my own storyline. In all honesty, most of them are along the lines of, "Once upon a time there was a planet infested with many dimwitted beings and only a few intelligent ones. One day, they...."

You get the point

It's an idea that's come up a couple of times and most folks tend to come out against it, including a fair number of the writers over on the Fanworks forum. Some people prefer to make up their own stories and like the fact that there's almost no official in-game story. Some don't want a story mode at all and can't see the point in a sandbox game. Some are just concerned that it would take a lot of effort from Squad for something that most players would play through once and then forget about.

Me - I'm not sure. I don't think it's a bad idea but I think it would be difficult to do well.

In the meantime, you'd be welcome to join us over at the Fanworks forum if you're curious about the kinds of KSP stories that the playerbase has dreamed up. The Mission Reports sub-forum sounds like it might be a good place for you to start - as the name suggests, the stories there are all played out in-game, so there's plenty of amazing screenshots to see, tales to read and hugely imaginative spacecraft to marvel at. Up to and including a Jool 5 mission using a proper space carrier fleet, complete with a mothership having internal docking bays for all the various landers and probes. Stories in the main forum tend to be a bit more varied - if you don't mind the blatant self plug, my Fanworks Library thread (link in my signature) is an archive of links to a good selection of them.

KSP is meant to be a Sandbox Game, in which the player gets to decide what happens. It wouldn't make much sense to lock the player into one path in a story mode.

However, the soonTM Making History DLC would add a kind of a story mode, to my understanding.

I can see a place for a pre-determined story as a tutorial, but for me in normal play i dont want to just follow what the game says.

I know its a different type of game, but my experience of single player FPSs puts me off.  I want to PLAY the game, not participate in a movie.

Not sure about a "story" mode but I could understand a "why" to our contracts and things. Aside from money and rep, really what is the reason to keep going? To explore the Kerbol System? Then what? There needs to be some kind of end goal that feels both rewarding and replayable. Does that make sense?... (Not saying the game would end there. You should still be able to continue after achieving said "why" reason.)

I've opened word up nearly a dozen times wanting to write a KSP story line for Squad. I have all the mechanics and the basic premise perfectly aligned in my head but the final decision I got from the community is that even if I shipped it off to Squad in the best form, they'd still not likely want or use it.

A mod for that would be nice to have, but since the making history DLC is coming, it not might be a free mod forever. Dunno if they will shut it down.

Since this is simulair to the Making History DLC, i don't think it will be featured in the base game.

I play on console. Id rather it not be a mod :/ I know thats just me but still something you have to consider.

Condonlences.

Unfortunately, even considering that some player can't use mods, often the more viable solution for a missing feature is provide it with mods.

The more viable solution would be for Squad to weigh their priorities... Better looking parts, a short term mission maker, and Commnet or a literal goal for the game? (Preferably optional) For example.. Who on pc doesnt use Mechjeb or Kerbal Engineer unless they're playing stock for some specified reason? (Not to say there arent stock players but seriously speaking) Wouldnt squad be better off just providing us with the numerical data rather than making modders do it for us or no?

In Spore, there are pre-scripted missions you have to complete that play before doing anything else in the space age. They were annoying and hindered gameplay by adding a tutorial that you could never skip, even if it was your thousandth playthrough.

So if this was a feature, I'd probably turn it off after playing through it twice. And, as James M pointed out...

A story mode could be awesome, but it doesn't make much sense for Squad if most people will just ignore it and it requires them to put other features on the back burner.

Making History would lend itself to cut scenes. End each mission with a Kerbalised version of the historical mission. Also allow mission builders to have maybe a pre-roll and post- roll videos (15 to 30secs max). Although that would require a video recorder in game.

I like this idea very much. But I don't think it will ever get done.

Making a storyline is about storytelling and storymaking. It's a skill of fictionalism, and in professional video/gamemaking it often requires said specialist to get it done properly.
The fictionalism involved requires schools of thought that benefit creativity and involve a mix of creative realism and pure fantasy.
People who are more into actual gamemaking and the construction and coding of which are analytical and often left brained and do not possess either through genetics or through lack of learning the creativity needed for fictionalizing a proper story. Of course there's creativity in rendering images to make them look neat. Know that this is not the only specific department of creativity, and not the one I'm trying to refer to.

Making games in the first place but also on the scientific basis of spaceflight is a very left brained kind of business, so are most people on this forum I take it. But yeah, there are plenty of artists on this forum to. Many people are notoriously both by the way.

For a good, proper, balanced, interactive and well rated career storyline you need artists in the Dev team. Large gaming companies have the money, resources and intel to find, hire and work the skilled people necessary to meet features of creativity like a storyline for instance.

I assume, Squad doesn't have/had this. Maybe they'd tell me that they do/did, but other games often have more specialized people in service who are much better at targeting the creativity necessary for the storyline goal.

On top of this comes the fact that the career system is a little bogus, or rather becomes pretty much bogus after a few playthroughs after which you install mods to fill in the career gaps.
So there's a actual lack in the whole workings of a proper career system that wouldn't even fit a storyline in its current state.
So before adding a storyline, I would revise the whole career. This is a subject being discussed plenty of times. Besides pondering whether Squad will ever give it a overhaul at all, there's the discussion how a new career system would look like in the first place. Multiple ideas have been presented, and we haven't had masses yet to conclude a solution. So there's that.

Summup...

  • There's a discussion in how career should be overhauled by this community. This is what keeps chunks of people away from career. A storyline seems moot in comparison to that point.
  • There's a requirement for a career overhaul to fit any storyline since the current state is a repetition of similar actions (I'm not sure how a story would fit in such a career system, you tell me?)
  • We need the proper people with the right professions in the gaming industry to get it done (the writers and graphics artists, not so much the coders who works the Kernel, UI or the bug cleaning)
  • And a financial incentive for Squad to even go there.

Disregarding monetary and staff issues, the real question is “what kind of story do you want.” As much as I love career mode, it gets boring once you’ve gone everywhere. To answer your question in the second bulletin; a space race is literally the most obvious response. Aside from that we have colonization and exploration. We can already achieve exploration which leaves colonization. Considering that, we would probably need an overhaul for optional life support/breeding grounds (I dont even want to know how they manage...). Another great idea presented long ago was to construct new space centers on the other planets and start from scratch there. Once again that would require more content. Either way you look at it, if Squad ever wants to take this game further theyre either going to have to make colonization/construction an option or add more planets and I dont see that happening unless we can all agree on that fact.
