What in the world is that supposed to mean? Is there something wrong with the armament / AI?

Alright, buckle your seatbelts kiddies because we have some dogfights coming up. Up first we have @Earthlinger's Lancer drone, facing off against @MrChumley's defending ReSoup. The Lancer is a development of several previously submitted designs, and has been refined considerably, but does it have what it takes to win?

no...no not really. The Lancers aren't a bad aircraft by any means, but they wind up routed by the ReSoup's missiles, and the ReSoups were just on the ball with guns.

Up next we have @Abraxis's DN-59k, a downrated version of the DN-59 we tested earlier with two engines instead of three...Its a sleek design, but is it dank enough?

Unfortunately no. The DN-59k is now facing off against very vicious competition in the ReSoup, and gets its clock cleaned 0-6.

And now, for your viewing pleasure, we have the DN-65es, a plane with an interesting delta design that sort of calls back to videogames of the 90s. Either way, this aircraft has a lot of wing area, decent thrust to weight, and decent armament, nothing cheesy here. so how will it perform?

The DN-65 does exceedingly well for itself. Had it been submitted at the time it was made (nov. 24), it would still be ranking, and would have dethroned the Bryntroll. The huge wing area on the DN-65 gives it a major advantage in maneuvering, as it nearly snaps to its given heading on takeoff. While it does have a decent armament of four AIM-120s, it is not set up for volley fire, so it defeats the competition primarily with exceedingly accurate gunfire, shadowing its targets (as seen in the video) for a second or two before blowing them from the air. The DN-65 won this one 6-0, dethroning the ReSoup and earning its #5 spot. @Abraxis i mention improving your design because i would not be surprised that with some modification to the armament or otherwise you could have a #1 aircraft on ranks.

Ah, sry. Don't worry--I'll modify the aircraft with all the current tactics people use so they can remain competitive.

Spoiler

Current aircraft tested up to 4th place in roster, could not beat Novi. increasing the minimum range of the radar guided missiles to 4000ft and adding heatseekers may help.

I wonder how the Berzerkers would fare with all this drastically increased competition

only one aircraft has bested the Berzerker, so probably wouldn't change much.

Great job @Abraxis!

That #5 spot is quite the edge of your seat experience :)

Thanks @exbyde! You're the real MVP!

Looks like I'll have to upgrade bda to 1.3 if I want to keep up.  The Resoup holding onto those AIM120's (and occasionally blowing itself up with them) held it back a bit.  What do you guys think?

Have fun people.

well it beat wunderwaffle but it doens't beat ReSoup doe XD

Figure out why, and adapt. Watch the fight, see how the resoup is beating your craft, is it being routed by a missile volley, is the resoup more maneuverable? are your results repeatable, or does your fighter win in some rounds?

Very :D

Also, @exbyde, I was checking out the DN-65, and I noticed that it is roughly equal in terms of maneuverability when compared to my Lancer. The only thing is that it seems to be a lot more aggressive. Rotation rate is a bit lower for my Lancer, but it turns faster and can recover from spins more quickly than the DN-65. As things are, I'm pretty happy with the Lancer - it wasn't built specifically for this competition anyways, lol - but I'd like to modify it slightly to make it more aggressive in combat. I feel like it's not taking advantage of it's potential.

So......are there any AI settings I should edit? I edited the max G, but I'm clueless as to what all the other settings such as steer damping, max aoa, etc, mean.

Help? (I'm not just asking exbyde, I mean everyone :D)
