Change, Revert, POOF!

Recommended Posts

So I was going to 1.3.1 for the first time and lost 9 satellites/rockets doing that because of the mods. so I reverted back to 1.3.0 and got my mods back and then; "This save is not compatible with this version" when I launched my world save, so I'm assuming I cant get my craft back either. A horrible idea that the KSP devs put in. I recommend this gets removed

Not so.

Backwards compatibility is a wonderful thing.  It allows you to use older saves in a newer version.

Forward compatibility is not only stupid, but nearly impossible to implement.  Once you saved your 1.3 save in 1.3.1, it became a 1.3.1 save.  1.3 doesn't know what to do with a save from a version that didn't exist when it was released.

You should have backed up your save before even attempting this.  Don't blame the devs for doing what makes sense.

It's also not the dev's issue if you don't confirm mod compatibility before upgrading.

I have to agree... I'm sorry if you've lost your save, but always, always back-up your saved games before trying to upgrade, especially if you have mods.

Agreed with this.  Further, you can also back up your entire KSP install, including installed mods.

So, you want to remove the option that people can't revert version back? Like, for instance, all the RSS/RO people, can't play for half a year because the mod isn't updated to the last version? That mod developers can't recompile because they can't test mods in earlier versions?
Nah, I think it's pretty self explaining why we rather need this function than wanting it in the first place.

What I want is so you can have the save file without it being messed up when you go to an earlier version and change back

As others have mentioned before, this can be done by backing up your saves before hand.

Goto \Kerbal Space Program\saves\[insert save]\Backup\. If you're lucky there might still be a pre 1.3.1 backup.
