Star Wars Episode VIII (8) the Last Jedi Discussion

Rogue One being a ww2 movie is fine, as every trope of SW combat is from WW2 anyway.

it was “Where Eagles Dare,” or other, similar WW2 movies.

BTW, I’m not seeing the whole Rey is too powerful thing.

She didn’t die to Kylo, who had just been shot by a gun they made a point of showing as insanely powerful earlier (when Han borrowed it). So she can beat someone who was likely wounded enough they’d die without medical care.

A friend of mine teaches fencing. I’ve tried it. It’s really hard, I never get close, he kills me every time. If I shot him first, I bet I could win a fight.

What else, using the voice? How many female Jedi have we seen? Again, never saw II and III. Maybe she’s more about that sort of thing naturally, guys tend to be more physically violent, girls more psychologically violent (just asked my daughter, she agrees). What’s the measuring tape to measure her power? Snoke pwns her, she’s a rag doll. Maybe Luke is a lousy trainer, having had very little himself, and Kylo is not super trained, either.

tater,

She's too powerful in the sense that she's never vulnerable enough for the audience to care about her. She's like a superhero who didn't even have to get bitten by a radioactive spider. Everything comes effortlessly to her, and nobody in the audience identifies with that.
Or even better, she's like an avatar in a first- person shooter game operating in God mode. She just goes places and does things. There's no peril, no depth to her character, no story arc to speak of. As a result, her story isn't an adventure so much as an exposition. She's just boring.

I blame the execs at Disney for this.

Happy New Year,

Agreed

Did anyone like my alternative plot for TFA

Blaming Disney is absurd, it’s less awful as storytelling than all 3 of the pure Lucas prequels, or his reedits of the first film.

Blame whatever, but “Disney” is goofy.

I literally cared about no character at all in Ep I, for example.

As I said, I don’t see her as so powerful. Snoke treated her like a toy, so I can only assume anyone of decent power would do the same. I agree she’s not super interesting to me, but Leia was never interesting, either (jabba ornament, aside).

In fact, how snoke overpowered her shows how weak Kylo is if he couldn’t.

@GoSlash27, @regex was right in his post above. Luke had no training, either. The best pilot on earth messing around with a crop duster is untrained put into an F-16, and sent into combat with no other training. Luke effectively did just that in the movie. I’ve flown a gajillion hours of combat flight sims, my lifespan in real air combat without real training would be measured in seconds.

It’s ok in Luke, but not Rey?

tater,
It *is* Disney's fault, which is why they've had so many problems with "creative differences" and had to play musical directors and writers.

The management at Disney is trying to promote an agenda, and while I won't get into it (political), you can freely google the subject and how it has hamstrung the story.

2 things I will say that are central: #1 all leading heroes must be female, and #2 no female can be portrayed as anything less than awesome.

This makes a good "hero" storyline impossible, since the hero must be vulnerable and come perilously close to death.

Best,
-Slashy

What do you want me to say yes? Hahah no he was the best pilot Their Rey had never flown anything but a speeder. Biggs said he was the best piolet in Beggers Canyon. So he did everything but shoot in a ship. I can do that on Battlefront II all you need to do it lead your target then have targeting computers so. Luke really just flew a ship with few fantsy maneuvers. And got a tip for obi wan at the last minute.

At this point it's not an agenda. It's the only way to not get raked over the coals by a vocal minority.

tater,

Luke was "the best bush pilot in the Outer Rim". Rey had never flown anything in her whole life, and effortlessly picked off TIE fighters while flying through the innards of crashed Star Destroyers. So yeah, not the same thing.

Yes I agree. I don't have a problem with it THAT MUCH but when they do it and the sacrifice is a good plot I have a problem. And I know my TFA Alternate plot is not relevant but I'm just curious if anyone liked it MORE than what we got on screen. I want to see who could write a better movie a professionals or the fan. :)

Counterargument: she beats Luke Skywalker. No bowcaster involved.

Hadn’t he said he’d abandoned the force, etc?

I haven’t rock climbed in ages. That I used to doesn’t matter, knowing what to do and being able to call it all back instantly to the same level are not the same thing, and Luke is older than I am.

True, I forgot vii to be honest, only saw it once, likely won’t ever aren’t again.

Regatdless, luke’s Pilot skill has no bearing at all on his lack of skill as a fighter pilot. They are not the same skill sets. He’s utterly green leaving to attack the Death Star.

Again Targeting computer was ON until he fired his torpedos. Play Battlefront I and feel the POWER of the targeting computer

Thinking about it... has she ever even encountered a starship that wasn't wrecked?

Is that why she gives the Falcon more bumps than she's had in twenty years?

True, but he has a lot of help, most of his friends died, and the only reason he didn't get blown away too was because Han saved his butt. Again, not the same thing as Rey being naturally awesome at everything.

And very overtly upstaging Han. If someone was ripping things off of my favourite ship, she'd end up in the escape pod quite quickly, regardless of her merits.

The TFA Han is mellowed out as all heck.

Ep. VIII Alternate Plot
Open on Jakku with the first order attack.

Everything stays the same until we meet Rey and she gets her food. And find BB-8 and is back at the AT-AT Walker. BB-8 still hold the schematics to Luke Skywalker position. All the event happen the same but this time Finn who is trained flies the Falcon and Rey takes down the Tie Fighters. They meet up with Han the Same way.

We now get a scene of Luke being his depressed self reading the Jedi Text. And him living his life on Ach To for a few moments. Luke has a cane but he doesn't need it.  Maby 2 minutes tops for Luke on this scene. Next we get a scene to General Hux Preparing StarKiller bases in the command center but we don't actually see the base. This is also where Snoke is introduced. Snoke Demands that Rey be brought to Snoke on Star Killer base. We next see a scene of Leia demanding support for the resistance on The Capital World. We see a frustrated Leia after not getting on a ship after being denied the funding for the resistance and being to take off. We now go back to Star Killer base which we see is a Enormous star Destoyer sort of like the legends Eclipse. He orders it fire. It's a red laser that splits but it's a Kyber Crystal Based design. Leia reaches space and from here left sees a Red beam hit the planet Right when Leia jumps into Hyper Space. She begins to cry and reveals mon mothma was on the planet along with some of her freinds when it blew up. We see a scene of Luke dropping his cane line Yoda during Order 66. We now see Rey with Han Board the melinium Falcon and fly to Takodana. We see the Takodana scene as it except no force vision. We see the same scene all the way up until the Falcon leaves except Rey isn't captured. Kylo Ren places a Hyper Space tracker on the Falcon. They fly back to the Resistance base where Poe Leia Rey Han and Chewy all meet up. And share the hello, good day to you, greeting moment. We now see Luke Skywalker on Ach to Find his lightsaber. He ignites it and it is Purple like Mace Windu he continues to train. We now see him take out his green lightsaber. So he can dual wield and make it into a double bladed style. If he chooses. The scene ends. And we see the meeting about star Killer base which is a Snoke Ship sized Star Destoyer with a Super Laser in the front. It is also escorted by 4 Dreadnauhts and 8 star Destroyers escorting. The Resistance get support from a Fleet from the Unknown Regions Lead by Resistance Admiral Thrawn. The Cousin of Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn. When Thrawn lands he devises a strategy similar the Ashoka Tano Ryloth campaign strategy. Use the capital ships to draw in the enemy and outflank them with fighters. It is decided that they do that plane to destroy the Star Killer base fleet. Also at the meeting Rey and Chewbacca C-3PO along with R2-D2 after find the complete Luke Skywalker map.Han Solo Poe and BB-8 go to blow up star killer base and being Kylo Back to the light side. When the Luke crew decided to fly to Acho the were unaware of the tracker. They take off. We see a scene of Kylo Reporting to Snoke the tracker is active and the Falcon is in transit. Just then the Alarm goes out across Star Killer base " Resistance Fleet Entering Secotr Battle Stations." We now see a scene of Chewbacca telling Rey to put on the helmet Luke used and Pick up her lightsaber and begin to train like Luke did with Obi Wan. C-3PO translates. When Rey puts on the helmet she has her force vision but this time foresees Her handing Luke the lightsaber. That only as her vision. We go to see Star Killer base under attack by resistance forces. The fighters all outflank and destroy all the capital ships and the dreadnaughts. They also take out 1/2 of the Engines on the ship and blow up the Super Weapon. They jump to Hyper Space to save their leader ship. A cannon on the Snoke Ship hits a Medical Frigate and it disintegrates when they jump. The order to abandon ship and transfer to the fleet we see in The Last Jedi. They also transfer data too the Capital Ship about the tracker. We now for the last scene see the normal end for the Force Awakens except when Luke takes the light saber he nods.

The End

How did you like that Plot compared to the one we got. Again that is a rough outline not a word for word just a food for thought. I'm going to being by Ep VIII Plot on what should happen in a later post. When I'm done eating... I've been writing this for a hour now lol.

Don't mind the quotation thing

Anyone like it more or less than what we got

F-16s have targeting computers. I know what the interface is like from sims. I own and have read Shaw.  (I should add that I’ve actually flown a fair amount with a couple friends who fly)

I am not even trained enough to count as green, I’d need a diaper. Luke was in that same position.
