I think LoSBoL is correct.. if I have a monthly subscription to something, I damnwell expect something of value in return for my money each month.

And I'd imagine most people are the same.. because that's exactly what the term "monthly subscription" implies.

Again, thinking vs statistics...

No one is implying that your expectations would be dashed, rather as a subscriber your requirements might actually be prioritised - again based whatever business model is implemented.

Oh and also... "Monthly subscription" can mean a variety things depending what you are subscribing to.  Again, the business model would define this.  You subscribe to a magazine because you like the concept or the topics typically provided. If the magazine changes it format you might choose to unsubscribe - one could presume the subscription is a type of vote, just like a one-time purchase of a game.

Also, let's be clear - the definition what a subscription entails is the responsibility of the entity providing said subscription.  Let's be careful that we are not all commenting based on our individual definitions of a subscription.

I don't see a problem on "rebuying" major releases. To be honest, I think it's more cost effective.

Monthly subscriptions have transactions costs that pile up. So, essentially,, making a single 12USD transaction is more lucrative than making 12 at 1USD each.

Of course, they can do annual subscription - what would be essentially "rebuying major releases" with another name. :-)

I'm not in favour of a monthly subscription.

For me the current aporoach is best - buy the base game with guaranteed free updates, which include bug fixes and a few new features.

Then the option to buy occasional DLC, which adds other major features etc and functionality, if i consider it of sufficient interrst or value to me.

That way they are not just churning out 'stuff' to keep subscribers supplied.  And they need to ensure that what DLC they do produce is of sufficient substance and quality to attract buyers.

I prefer buying products over renting them.

It'd be one thing if I hadn't been using 20+ mods for the past several years to make up for the game's shortcomings.  Paying a monthly fee, and than having to install mods to cover up the game's deficiencies to just to much for me.

This is basically putting the DLC on layaway.   We get an annual update, but we pay monthly for it.   At the end of the year, we've paid a bit more for the DLC than we would have in a one time payment, depending on the costs.

But a paid monthly subscription for an offline, single player game is ludicrous to me.

Again, very valid points and perspective. Can’t disagree.
