What are folks using these days for a parachute calculation tool?

I really liked the one that used to be at http://ksp.freeiz.com/

That site's down and the latest I found on WayBackMachine is from Dec 2016 (later snapshots are broken) https://web.archive.org/web/20161225235749/http://ksp.freeiz.com/

IIRC I think RealChutes does calculations as well.  Any other good ones out there?

I typically just debug menu the thing to it's intended orbit and drop it, then see what happens lol.

Had no idea parachute calculators were even a thing!

Kind of surprised there is no up to date mod that does this? We have calculators for everything else just about.

I use 0.7-1 chute per ton of spacecraft.  Usually I land back at Kerbin at between 4 to 6m/s.

Attach a chute to your thing and see how fast is it on crash.

Also if you are using RealChute, it knows best.

Slap a parachute or two on. Keep a little fuel. Use KER to throttle up to 0.9 TWR right before touchdown. Optionally use parts of great crash resistance and something for a crumple zone on the bottom.

What about magico's Stage Recovery?

It adds a tool to VAB and SPH that shows the percentage that will be recovered in every stage...

That would be my suggestion.  As you build the stages you intended to crash land, the mod will let you know the estimated speeds under a canopy.
