Ram the roof, you turkey! :D

As soon as I have the Truck on it's wheels I'm going to blow up the small truck.

That thing has been a pain in the @$$.

I have 4 x explosives on me and not afraid to use it, if I figure can out how it works...*or English

DAY 5

We took the small winch from the truck and placed it on the little piece of crap.

You can guess what happens next . . . <_<

Well, as someone who was trained real-world in vehicle recovery....

Good that the Kerbals on the ground are getting clear during the pulling phase.  In a real recovery of a truck on it side, often a strain balance vehicle is on the other side so the recovered vehicle just doesn't crash down on its suspension.  That really isn't needed in KSP in this case.

And its underside would be choked in place so it didn't slide.  Don't think you can do that with KAS.  What you could do is use a 2nd vehicle not as strain relief but to hold on the lower top side so that you get enough torque to right the flipped truck.

And now I'm wondering if KAS has stakes or other ways to attach its winch lines to the ground.  And that the main recovery truck needs winches all 4 sides (and perhaps top too?) just so it can self-recover.  Assuming that can be made to work.

As for the landings, I always go with the mod NavUtilities if I can.  Add in customer runways matching the ones you've added and you should be golden setting up professional glide-slope landings.

Yes, there is a harpoon you can place in the ground, I've tried it before but couldn't connect the D@#m thing, I'm new to this mod . . .

That's a nope for me, I like my flying without mods. ^_^

Just for the fun of it I'm going to design a 8 wheeler tomorrow to sort out this mess.

I've not used KAS at all so far.  So much to do and learn, so little time.

I understand what you mean.  However, I personally always find that line irritating.  It's a case where it's definitely better to show, not tell.

But no matter....

I look forward to see what you get up to with more wheels. :)

So what's next ?

- Bill thinks he can save the F-5 that is still at Black Krags base, he thinks he can attach the nosewheel back on the jet and use the Centipede to pull it back up.

- Val is going to take the truck back to the KSC with Milkin and Geofbard.

But first we are going to blow up the worthless mini truck.

Only 2 wheels survived  after that explosion :o

Val is ready to return to the KSC.

After a few minutes driving there was an explosion in front of us.

cMyAhjJ.png

I wasn't sure what happened, we where driving on a flat surface.

But after watching the F-3 screen I knew what happened.

aYozhWu.png

I did not retract the winch before driving so it jiggled freely around untill it slammed into the ground.

Luckely Bill is still nearby with the Centipede, he's now on his way to rescue us once more...

I don't like this, I just want to move on . . . -_-

Refueling done.

I am going to keep both jets on location for refueling Jeb on his trip.

I did get Bill back, his idea to save the F-5 is nice, but not worth the long drive.

The Centipede is awesome, rolled over 3 times during the trip but kept landing on it's wheels.

Managed to get a topspeed of 46.2 m/s !

We might send in a small plane later to see what can be done with the F-5 jet.

Next up: Jeb continues his adventure. &)

Did I say later ?

R&D came up with a small jet to check out the F-5 and if needed, take Edberry home.

As you can see we gave it a "baby seat" for Edberry's flight of shame.

The jet has some small winches and uses the J-33 Wheesley turbofan engine for it's reverse function.

Sending out Val now.

I just realised, only a engineer can use the KIS tool, I've should have send Bill instead of Val...

I keep forgetting Jeb, he is supposed to drive around Kerbin and here I am, cleaning up the mess first . . . ^_^

Cool, dude!  It's these "side missions" in such a immersion of reality that make your tales so entertaining. :)

You know, for that demolition, you should have moved the vehicles farther back, set a longer fuse, and moved farther away from the explosive.  I know Kerbals are tougher than their crafts, but what would you have done if one of the vehicles had been damaged. :)

And did you clean up the two remaining wheels?  Too bad you couldn't haul back in one of the trucks. :)

I'm not sure how to move on from here, I need a moment to think....

What do you guys think ?

Should we continue in the rover with another driver or should we start all over again taking the Centipede ?

Oh.

My.

My first reaction is you need to spin Kerbin backwards and stop Jebediah before he kills himself.

As for the vehicle, you've been driving.  Is there something fundamentally wrong with the rover that makes it tip over more often?  Or is it more driving too fast for the ground?

Now, even if it is too fast, the 8-wheeler is likely more stable.  But there may be ground that the rover will be a better vehicle for.  It's a balance between those.  But I think it might tilt towards the larger vehicle.

Do you need 2 Kerbals?  Also, considering the terrain in so many places, I do think you need a vehicle that can self-recover.  I'd suggest going with a winch on each face and the top and figuring out those KAS stakes.
