The Great Forum Disaster

I have heard tell of an event known as the great forum disaster, and I would like to know more about it, as I am fairly new to the forums. I assume it has something to do with the many times I have clicked on a link to a forum page, and an error message appeared. I would like to understand this event more clearly. Thank you.

The big one was several years ago when the forum crashed and the last usable backup turned out to be 7 months old. Many posts, rep points, threads, and entire forum accounts were unrecoverable. I presume that's the one you've heard about.

I readed in the wiki that the forum was slowy becoming slower and slower until it was basacly unuseble.And then what @Vanamonde mentioned happened
