Help with Challenge

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I got a few questions that concern a challenge I am in the middle of creating. It is a circumnavigation of Kerbol's Ocean ( the one that is closest to KSC). It is like the Kerbin sorta Circumnavigation that @purpleivan has done with a twist.

The rough draft is in the spoiler below.

Spoiler

KERBIN BOAT  SORTA CIRCUMNAVIGATION CHALLENGE

I use SORTA Circumnavigation as a trip along the coast of the ocean closest to KSC.

Unless I specifically say FULL circumnavigation I mean sorta circumnavigation.

WARNING: DO NOT UNDER TAKE THIS CHALLENGE IF YOU DON"T WANT TO SPEND LONG WORKING ON IT. It is not an easy walk in the park as it ma seem, it is a journey of around 20,000 Km and will take a LONG time to complete.

Please note: You may want to  use a non-jet, non- rocket approach as it will take a long time to do it anyway.

Mods are accepted, though they are discouraged.

ACCEPTABLE MODS: Auto pilot mods, timer mods.

NO HULL MODS OF ANY SORT!!! If you use any hull mods, you are disqualified from the leaderboard.

STOCK PARTS ONLY

BOAT

LVL 1.  A Kerbin circumnavigation. NO refuel or crew changes.  MUST USE, must have room for 6 Kerbals not including the cockpit, must be done in under  1 Earth year. CAN INCLUDE ISRU.

LVL2. Kerbin circumnavigation. No refueling, crew transfers, NO ISRU.  MUST USE, Mk2 parts, must hold enough fuel for round trip, must have room for 6 kerbals not including the cockpit, must be self-sufficient.

ADD ON LVL.  Amphibious boat instead makes it full circumnavigation instead.

BOAT WITH ROVER

LVL3. A  Kerbin circumnavigation. No refuel or crew changes. Must use MK2 parts, must have room for 8 Kerbals without rover/cockpit room. Can use ISRU.

LVL4. A Kerbin  circumnavigation. NO refuel, crew transfer, no ISRU. Must have, have room for 8 Kerbals  without rover/cockpit room. Must be self-sufficient.

BOAT WITH AIRSHIP/VTOL

LVL5. A Kerbin circumnavigation. No refuel or crew changes. Must have, have room for 8 Kerbals without airship or VTOL/cockpit room. Must be self-sufficient. No using VTOL to refuel and fly back and refuel the boat. ISRU can be used.

LVL6. A Kerbin circumnavigation. NO refuel or crew changes. Must have Mk2 parts, have room for 8 Kerbals  without cockpit or Airship/VTOL. Must be self-sufficient.

BOAT WITH AIRSHIP/VTOL AND ROVER

Combine LVL4 and 6 as well as add on challenge to make the ultimate challenge.

Is there anything that I need specify or elaborate on?

Is there any thing advice that I could use in writing the challenge?

How should I structure the Leader board?

The spoiler containing the draft will be edited over time as suggestions come in, via this thread or a PM.

Please note that not all of the Level numbers will remain the same, I may add or delete them, or certain rule and regulations that are in the piece. It is just a rough draft.

If one completes the challenge, is there anything that they will receive as a prize for it?

A few of points I'd like to make.

I know what a Kerbin "Sorta-Circumnavigation" is because I did it (probably) first and came up with the name to differentiate it from a regular circumnavigation. Anyone reading the challenge description, but not having read my mission report might be confused about what it means, i.e. follow the coastline all the way round.

You start out calling it the Sorta Circumnavigation, but then switch to using just circumnavigation which might be confusing. A normal circumnavaigation isn't possible as there isn't a stretch of water running fully round the plannet, the seas are basically one big lake, bound on all sides by land.

This is only going to be possibly using electric power (no refuelling) with solar/RTG to provide it, which means this is going to be a slower trip than the one I did using jet power. It will take a very long time to compete. It might be worth adding something about this not being a challenge for the faint hearted, as it's a journey of about 20,000km.

There's no rule about how exactly to follow the coast, but I think that would be difficult to define/implement, so probably you'll have to go with the honest system for that.

Unless I directly say FULL circ. I mean SORTA circ. but I will include it.Also I am sorry for not updating the spoiler, I have just been very busy with summer camps/ reading and trips and such, that I haven't found much time toget on the forums and rewrite evrything thatI need to.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
