A part that can be added to a craft so that you can dismantle and build craft in space without going on a spacewalk.

If this has already been suggested, please redirect me to where. Spacewalking is fiddly and there are a number of great little pods available through mods or even stock. A part that would allow an engineer in a controllable pod to remove and attach parts while floating in space would be great. Just like in SciFi movies that show huge ships being constructed in a Space Dock Yard.

Yes i agree

EVAing in ksp is really hard (at least for me) especially since there is no tether so on orbit eva construction is challenging

but i think i have half the solution: try the mod https://spacedock.info/mod/1000/Hangar or https://spacedock.info/mod/1123/Ground Construction could be used to build craft in orbit (kind of) but i don’t know of a mod that can  help you dismantle parts directly in flight

Hi. Done both of these, great as they are they don't address the pull off parts and then use them to build something new from said parts I was talking about.

EVAing is really hard, I thought I remembered the Kerbals being able to stop themselves spinning but that has not been the case when playing in 1.12.1

I have an EMU chair but you can't build while in it I am pretty sure. Though I haven't bothered to test that (probably should) .

It's been a while since I have used it as I have been modding and testing in a mostly mod less game up until yesterday. But the Kerbal Attachment System mod can be used  as a tether. Put the winch next to your airlock, attach the end to your Kerbal on EVA and set the winch to slack. Bring up it's UI and leave it in a corner and when you need to get back just winch yourself back in.

OMG thank you so much

i have kis in by install but i never even realised that

perhaps you can timewarp to stop kerbals spinning (if you don’t have persistent rotation)

Try lower the throttle setting on the Kerbal's RCS. Right-click on the Kerbal, and it should should a green bar that limits the throttle.

With that at 25%, it will become much easier to handle EVAs since they no longer overshoot in either direction. Remember to turn it back on for Mun landings, will need full strength there

What I’ve been doing is equipping my engineers with a Pegasus Mobility Enhancer, then mounting it temporarily to the hull near the construction area. It tucks  her/him out of the way without worrying about where they may have floated off to.  I’ll have to play with the KIS winch idea, though my first thought is whether or not it could get tangled?

SAS may be off.

I agree, EVA controls are bologna. Basically every space game I've played in recent memory with EVA things have a sync velocity feature that cancels all your velocity relative to the selected object. With that missing in conjunction with how fiddly precisely controlling a Kerbal can be, trying to precision place parts in orbit is a pain.

Won't tangle the Kerbal but can clip through the craft which can be tricky.

I didn't say anything before because I thought it was just a typo but it is KAS, the Kerbal Attachment System.

Yeah i’ve got both kis and kas instsalled.

hard to keep track of similar mod names when you have 100+ mods installed lol
