Home Security Camera advice?

Anyone got experience with retail solutions in this field?

I'd like to find something self contained (not a service) that would give me a couple of general purpose cameras and one with optic zoom + motion sensing & day/night capable.

I tried a simple trail-cam but discovered I need the optical zoom.  Also, having to pay to see my photos sucks.

Ideas?

I have 2 cameras, neither a service.

My doorbell cam is Lorex. It records to an SD card and you can copy the data over your wifi like any other data. You can also manually (from in the phone app) email videos or pictures to yourself.

I also just got a "lightbulb camera" from LaView, and it seems to be about the same level of usability though I've not actually tried it yet. I like it because it just replaces an outdoor lightbulb, and swivels to follow noise or motion.
