Kerbalism is a mod I realllly want to play with, but I don’t want to install it without knowing if it can be toggled across saves. I want to use it career mode, but in sandbox? Nah. So, can Kerbalism be toggled?

tl;dr: Not easily.

I like Kerbalism and might play a career game again with it in the future, but there is not an easy way that I know of to do this (except multiple ...)

Easier to have (depending upon the EULA) a whole new Game/Game Directory. There was a program that swapped GameDirectories.

Like zeroKerbal said, create multiple KSP folders. That will give you 2 independent copies of the game each with their own mods and settings.

Since KSP doesn't use DRM and isn't heavily intertwined with the Windows registry, you can just copy your existing folder and do not have to reinstall the entire game. For example, if your current KSP folder is c:\MyKSP, copy that to c:\MyKSPKerbalism, all of your existing mods will be kept, then add Kerbalism in that new folder.

Make an extra copy of a folder before installing new mods or before experimenting with game settings. That gives you an instant way to roll back your changes if things go wrong.
