horrible plane flight.

when I am on the runway it forces the plane side to side

A lot of times the cause is that the wheels of the aircraft are either a little out of alignment or the wheels are trying to support too much weight. Both situations can cause instability in take off and landing.

Also, are you using stock wheels or wheels from a mod?  Some wheels from mods (Airplane Plus in particular) are notoriously unstable.

You mean the stock wheels? An A320 should not explode because it was descending 5fpm faster than the suggested landing speed, Squad :P

Go into the main menu settings and switch on “advanced tweakables”, then go to the Spaceplane Hangar, right click the front wheel and:

  • Override spring and damper settings, set spring to maximum;
  • Override friction control, set it to 0.5;
  • If it has brakes, reduce brake strength to 25%.

Excess friction on the front wheel can cause planes to veer off to the side of the runway with no control inputs at all, but reducing the friction setting and boosting the suspension can alleviate this problem and help you take off more easily. It’s also a good idea to build your planes so that they have a slight nose up pitch while landed to give your wings more lift at low speed, making it fly slower and thus able to take off and land more easily and less explosively- sometimes!

My suggestion is to mount the main landing gear to the center fuselage, not the wings or lateral mounted tanks.  After mounting the landing gear to the center fuselage, use the offset tool to position the gear where you want them.  The game still considers them mounted to the center fuselage, which for some reason makes them much more durable.  Perhaps give that a try..

And, it might be obvious to some but, I remember starting out and not realizing some things; make sure you're using symmetry and not placing the gear by eye.

Many Kerbals knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!
