The UI has a lot of dead space. I'd like to see the dead space minimized. Image of example included.

The Nav Ball overall size was shrunken, the Nav Ball it self has been enlarged/kept the same size.
The SAS window was shrunken and the overly large circle around it has been removed.
The AP/PE -time to window has been moved and shrunken.
The time warp window also has a large border around it.  border shrunken and window was made smaller.
The fuel/electricity windows borders were shrunken.
The parts manager has tons of dead space around it.  The letters are 16 pixels tall but the space between one font to the next is 65 pixels.. A lot of dead space for no reason.  This leaves the UI full of bars with minimal useful information  displayed.  In my pic the font was kept the same, most of the dead space was removed.

Please always consider the fact that the UI has to be visible for players that are sitting 3 meters away from the TV on the couch.

That being said, I like how everything is arranged now. It's true useful space should be maximized. Most importantly: please maximize the size of the NavBall.

This looks way better imo. I like to think that, as this is UI/UX design basics, they will carefully optimise the use of space and that what we have now is only temporary.

What would be really nice to have is an interface customization feature, where you can place the main elements where you want them to be and resize them. I mean you can do that with wings... why not the navball :) ?

Good point.

The ideal solution would be a wide array of available settings. At the very least, options to increase/decrease navball size, font size and GUI size. Then everybody could just set it to fit their taste.

Well, in that respect, it's a total failure. While the overall UI takes a ton of screen real estate, many critical elements (text, icons) are tiny and barely readable.
When you want to make an UI that work for all uses cases, you make it as uniform and space efficient as possible so it can be globally scaled up and down.

Wait, are they putting this out on consoles?

Well, I hope they throw us PC players a UI scale option.  Honestly, with unity I can absolutely get wanting to leave fixing the UI til last, that system is kind of a handful, but now that it's (EA) out the door, overall UX is something that should be a priority.

There's also the issue (in the VAB) of menus getting hidden behind each other.

The UI i drew up, the important bits stayed the same size such as font.  the main parts that were shrunken are the huge black borders surrounding everything.
