Offsetting parts too limited currently

Recommended Posts

In KSP1, by holding down the shift key, you could slide parts away from their attachment points. In KSP2, you can do this, but the distances are very limited.  Also, when offsetting parts, there are some peculiar behaviors as you get to the sliding limit, such as parts shifting vertically when you are only pulling horizontally.

I used this constantly in KSP1, and am finding it increasingly difficult to work around the new limitations as I get more ambitious/quirky in my builds.

It would be lovely to have that same functionality from KSP1 carried over to KSP2.

maybe you have already figured it out but just simply click on the small magnet on the bottom of your screen while in VAB for a free shift, this allows you the desired precision shift

It is good for precision. C key is the shortcut to toggle snap. But what OP is pointing out is that you can only offset a limited distance, which I would estimate to be about 5 meters.

There is a trick to go beyond 5 meters:

  1. With the offset tool, and with snap enabled, select your part and grab one of the handles.
  2. Drag the part past the maximum distance it will go, to approximately where you want the part to be.
  3. Now, without moving the mouse at all, disable snap by pressing C and release left click. The part will have teleported to your cursor.

Obviously this is a bug, so use with caution. It could mess up your save file or have other negative effects.
