Vera with its unusually reflective rings

Still need to fix the fact that canyon is a shiny marble and not a brown world like i hoped it to be and also the atm color of vera is an issue

The twin gas giants...

Sorry for replying so late, but these gas giants are definitely not twin giants. The one in the background is 100 times more massive than the one in the foreground. Bigger difference than stock kerbin and jool.

Sorry for being so inactive.

Plans to revise the two gas giants (including 110060 into a solid planet, although it wouldn’t be much of a challenge apart from pressures due to low gravity and orbital speed).

Also a new body called Perbi has been released and will probably go through some amendments, but it is a super earth orbiting in the former asteroid belt. It’s a super earth with a radius of 2,640km (almost 1000km at stock) and a gravity of 1.57g (there is carbon and silicates responsible for low density). Oxygen is present which makes ascent more bearable in the 17atm sea level pressure, and many mountains reach over 20,000m while maintaining a low terrain gradient. The ice caps are also huge and have even larger sheets of ice many kilometres thick.

in addition to that, inclination on all the rings has been set to 0 for realism except 111000 (the view from Heyu would never be the same). Also planning on making the twin gas giant orbit as the first major moon. Not as close as 111000s moons to not destroy the ring system, but far enough away to have some distinct separation, i’m thinking 80000km,

Body for the day is 106000. Please suggest names. Photos coming soon, i don’t have them right now.

Radius: 3700km

Surface Gravity: ~2.4g

Atmosphere: 33 atm

Atmosphere Height: 55km

From the stats, this planet is clearly one of the harder bodies to ascend from, and with an orbital velocity of 9.4km/s that is definitely the case, with re-entries needing to generate lift as well to prevent overheating due to high sink rate in the extremely low scale height. Some of the higher plateaus or mountains in the planet reach over 30,000 meters, which pose a threat to planes while also making it easier to land (although the pressure there can be as low as 0.05 atm). If I decided to be evil and add some iron/silicate to 106000 rather than it being carbonaceous-y and slightly icy the gravity would be something like 5G, posing a slightly (actually, way harder) challenge than Alternis Tylo/Nara. The atmosphere height would also be so low that the highest mountains are in space.

Progress for the Day:

mYFApjx0t9uR.png?o=1

Created BiomeMap for Revan. There are 15 biomes including the completely white poles biome (blends in!). See if you can spot them all. Note that the actual map will be rotated 180degrees. All of the land is in monochrome with complete black representing inland water and almost white representing the peaks. There are 5 oceans as well as a separate biome next to the KSC. Good luck exploring them all!

Update on v1.0 full release status:

After almost 120 hours of work across nearly a month (yes i have been working practically non-stop (nothing better to do in school)), v1.0 will be released on 13 August 2023. That means that the mod will be bug-free (at least during playtesting) and a "release" thread will be created. 18/25 of the bodies have been made as of today.

LSR 0.6.0 (the first actually working release will release on Monday). It looks pretty good except the Voronoi craters everywhere (i don’t really care about that). Screenshots soon. Biome map seems inverted north-south i think

From now on, major releases will be posted in the replies. 0.6.0 marks the first fully working version, with 19 bodies. Or 18. Or 17.

Minor updates came out very quickly, at a rate averaging one per day, with multiple being uploaded in one day several times! I pushed out minor updates so quickly that CKAN had a hard time catching up. But now 0.6.0 will come out, and updates will be rolling in slightly slower. They will, however, be more likely to be major updates, and the rate of body creation will stay at about once every 30-36 hours.

Vera images: (I just discovered that this was Vera and not Perbi)

(Note, some of the images may have the AeroGUI or the whole GUI, because I really need those to fly properly). All of the crafts had to be set-positioned to Vera. No other cheats were used. I experienced a lot of technical difficulties while uploading the images, more will be coming soon.

Spoiler

DW0qRG0Ca202.png?o=1

At an altitude of 45 kilometers over Vera. The mountains ahead are about 10 kilometers tall, but the gradient is only 20%. Vera is pretty bumpy and is known for its archipelagos, inspiring the name Vera’s Extremely Rocky Archipelagos. Well not really rocky, but…

On top of one of the mountains. The coast is visible.

The mountain range. The thin band near the top right is Vera's rings at a 0.2 degree latitude.

Actually Perbi's images:

Spoiler

Perbi is a ringed planet, but the rings have not been added yet. The rings are very similar to Vera's, but much smaller and brighter and more yellow.

CHcKDkvLtr0P.png?o=1

The southernmost tip of Perbi's ice shelves. Latitude 27N. (Note: cheats were used, this is a test, the kerbal got pretty toasty).

VdIdHGCPJxE5.png?o=1

The location where the land meets the ice shelves. Latitude 29N

gSwZDH3maTdi.png?o=1

Another amazing ice shelf shot. Latitude 57N

DWGwMhqXUxGh.png?o=1

Finally, permanent ice. The ice sheet was almost completely hand-made by me.

Pfbbn0KcyVSa.png?o=1

The last permanent water body.

ybUVlPGByeqT.png?o=1

Approaching the north pole. Perbi is huge!

Htezh1x8c8lU.png?o=1

Jeb lands just four degrees from the North Pole. The ice sheet is nearly four kilometers high! (Perbi's sea level pressure is 17 atmospheres, so at such an elevation the pressure is still 7 atmospheres).

t8ST1RvQPMKy.png?o=1

The mountains of Perbi. The pressure ASL is only 40,000 Pa up here. The peaks are staggeringly tall, and the base elevation is pretty insane. It's a small but continuous incline up to the mountains from the shore.

That's it!

i’m currently working on a manned mission to Heyu. It will be pretty hard, i’ve got the transfer stages ready (just a lot of nervs). There are 2 separate modules, a lander and the other stage. The other modules has a transfer stage and a return stage. They have 9000m/s, which is more than enough (i will be using a gravity assist off 106000). The transfer stage has some heyu assists to lower the orbit into a stable one. The lander will detach and land on Heyu. It will be my greatest accomplishment when it’s done, still making the orbital stage. it’s surprisingly difficult to have rockets at sea level, so the high TWR gets the rocket out of the lower atmosphere fast. still having problems with the boosters taking other things down when they get decoupled. Really annoying, i think wings may help but the part count is already at 140 which is higher than my PC can handle properly. maybe lsr isn’t that easy. (no screenshots yet)

I’ve decided that the homeworld body should get 2 small airless moons to make career immediately after reaching orbit more bearable.  The innermost one is so close that it orbits in just 1.2 days and is quite small. It has been created and was mostly procedurally made with a little bit of manual colouring and heightmap deformity. The polar basins are flat areas where there is only Voronoi Craters and it is the area with the most geological activity. The moon is a light grey with a low albedo but there are some white sections as well.

The second moon will look like Eeloo or enceladus and will be white in colour and orbit 3 times further out. It will be more of a challenge to reach due to inclination.

I'm thinking of trying this with the new BDB release in career mode. I'm concerned about this combo, though:

  • Linbol homeworld needs extra DV to reach orbit, compared to JNSQ Kerbin.
  • Some of the early BDB rockets barely reach orbit in JNSQ Kerbin. That's reasonable since those real rockets could barely attain Earth orbit and not a flaw in BDB.
  • Some early usual BDB orbiters may therefore only be suborbital for Linbol, and I'll need to unlock more of the tech tree to achieve first orbit. In science mode it's easy to farm science but in early career I might run out of money before attaining orbit. Or run out of science depending on how many biomes are on the homeworld.

Thoughts? Has anyone tried Linbol + BDB + career?
