  1. 1. Can you land on the Mun and Return successfully?

    • Yes. I will post a picture as proof.
    • No. I am still learning!

are you using mods for this? (cant see how you would make this stuff using vanilla.) that massive complex with the solar panels. thats wild. also it looks like your using a crane or something to move things into place?

was that in ref to my post?

yeah using mods, KW rocketry, some KSPX parts and Kethane are the main ones. The rover/crane thing which moves the small modules about uses damned robotics and the KAS mod. Yes, the rover and that method of moving things is not possible stock, but the hab lander and its smaller ascent module would be, infact the first version was stock. I moved to using mod parts mostly for aesthetic reasons, the tanks have the same fuel/weight ratio, but nicer textures! The small radial KSPX tanks are purely decorative and in the current version I've taken them off to reduce part count. The only really essential mod part on the crew lander are quantum struts which hold the ascent module steady when it returns and re-docks with the hab lander.

These pics are from something like the MkV of this, its now more like the MkXX (I've lost count). The ascent module now sits right inside the hab lander rather than perched on top of it and the rover has a majorly improved connection system to the modules. It's now on its way to Duna, I'm doing my next vid on it (if i ever get time!).

Figured I'd do a Soyuz LK, just because I haven't seen one in this thread yet. Normally I don't use this one, as it doesn't have IonCross Crew Support with it, but why not?

Okay, I fail at upping the album... I'll just post the poignant pics then...

EDIT: The first two pics are actually from a second launch. I got to orbit before I realized that I hadn't taken any screens. Also, you'll notice a missing solar panel. That was the fairings' fault. Bad Fairings!

The Mun is my oldest and most frequent stomping grounds. It's no exaggeration to say that I was landing on it before most people in the KSP community even knew what KSP was yet. I've run over a hundred missions to that orb in the sky, from mining operations to permanent bases to challenges involving scrape-the-surface fly-bys to just plain old land-and-return operations. Here's a pair of shots from my... hm, tenth Mun landing ago? I actually kind of lost count!

Obviously I was experimenting with rovers at the time.

Getting back was a snap as usual.

I have only ever done it with the lander/command module undock, redock method!

Its on my other PC so cannot post pics as it has no internets until I get my new house connected up.

It was fun, the chutes were on the command module so I could make the lander quite light. In one trip I did the Mun and two landings on Minmus!

I only failed my first trip there: 2 of my kerbals got stuck there without enough return fuel.

But I've sent an lander to get them back!

I got a video of the landing of the rescue mission:

I wasn't that good "back than" (2 weeks ago) with aiming, so I landet pretty far away from them. But they made it with the jetpack. Well... at least one made it... the other one smashed his head on a rock because he was too fast :-|

But the other one came back happy!
