[It's finally here!] Apollo Replica "MUNBUG XII" Saturn V, CSM, Lander, Buggy

Recommended Posts

So I tryed to use the Satern V. When I whent to launch it, my computer spontaniusly grew legs, leapt from the desk and threw itself out of the window. I turned to Rainbow Dash and asked what could have caused that and she suggested I lay off the LSD. That helped but I still have a problem with the Frame rate. I cant get into orbit because im correcting for issues that happend 5 to 10 seconds before I see them. Any way to up the FPS on ships with 500+ parts? Iv already tryed lowering graphics and closeing background programs.

the key is to set the physics time slider to the max (0.03) the game 'time' will slow down, but it will be able to do all the physics calculations correctly (it justs lengthen a bit the ascent time, but the rocket should behave better :P, and the game speed will progressively go back up to normal as the dropped stages 'disappear' out of the 2.5km physics range.

Great job with the new lander. I always thought that the old lander was too big (no offense meant, it was still amazing how much detail you put in something of that size), but the new one is spectacular! It really does look like "spider." As a result, the upper part of the Saturn V doesn't bulge as much too, so it looks spot on. Just one question, when you said you had to use the CSM engine to get the munar trajectory, how do you do it properly by using only the engine from the 3rd stage? I've always had to use the CSM engine to finish the burn.

Ill give that a try when I get home, thanks.

Thanks, I'm pretty pleased with it! Still trying to get the DV up enough to carry the new fairings though, I'm still about 200 short for a free return trajectory.

Ill give that a try when I get home, thanks.

Yep, that should help a lot with your frame rate!

Will Munbug XI have science? And how about a launch tower?

He already said that there won't be a launch tower because Munbug has a partcount of over 700, with the launchtower it would be about 1500. And whether it will have science, you'll see that when it's released.

Sorry but munbug is about getting the closest replica to apollo as possible, the pods are the best option. The old design is too big and the cupolla is just wrong (its part of the ISS in real life) and the view from the window is upside down, with the pods your view is the correct way up. The new lander is much closer to the real one than the old munbug. Of course if you prefer the old one you can still download munbugs 1 to 10.

What about the single mainsail at the second stage? I know that it would only work correctly if there would be a difference between O2/H2 and O2/RP1 (so O2/RP1 for the first and O2/H2 for the second and third stage). RP1 is much heavier than H2.

... and why the hell has it only 4 stars??

Thats how the actual Apollo landers were, and this is a replica ship.:)

But the real Apollo landers had only one crew cabin so you actually would have to use the Mk-2 Lander Can.

Don't mean to annoy/favor this thread, but

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Seriously, can you update the Munbug X? Please?

give the guy a break. have you not seen all the good stuff he is doing?

Jesus if you're that desperate for a fix why don't you try working one out yourself?

I know, but it should only take a few minutes to update it. The only problem is that the four outer engines on the first stage receive no fuel.

I tried, but the fix he gave me didn't work.

Very impressive! You've done a magnificent job once again. Many thanks for sharing this craft and putting so much effort into its production; your work is greatly appreciated. The realistic, yet stock, shroud separation is genius.

Its that time of the year when Mulbin updates his Saturn V again. Time to feel inferior.

Seriously though, Wow. Just wow. That lander, those fairings, its all so magnificent! Great job as always Mulbin. :)

There is a typo on the pictures of the craft- then say IX but it's really the XI version.

^ I noticed this as well and it threw me for a loop for a few seconds haha

I sometimes think that you are Wernher von Braun and sit in heaven with a Computer. AWESOME CRAFT!!!

EDIT: the new lander has parachutes. is it Duna-able?

Thanks everyone! Glad you like it.

Fixed!

EDIT: the new lander has parachutes. is it Duna-able?

The parachutes are just to make the LEM the right shape.... no idea how it would work on duna, you'll need more DV to get it there!

I must say, after trying to fly the craft I find it a bit...explodey.

Twice sitting on the launchpad now it has just exploded when physics kicked in before I had a chance to do anything and four out of the five times I managed to launch it wanted to dive toward the horizon and I used a quarter of the first stage to bring it back to vertical. The one time I got it to over 50km I found the TWR was too low to get to orbit.

I`ll keep trying but this is my progress so far.

EDIT: I find the wanting to tip over drops off at about 2.5km and it becomes much more controllable. Got it to 60km, I still cannot get to orbit though. Could you post a video of how to get it to orbit or at least tell us what sort of flight profile to follow? (when to turn, what height/speed we should be at when staging etc)

EDIT: Got it to 73km and 1600m/s

EDIT: got it to orbit. 150kmx65km Having trouble getting enough Dv from the first stages to allow the third stage to get to orbital speeds without using too much fuel.

Also it does a good impression of the Leaning tower of Piza
