What did you do in KSP1 today?

Tested my Apollo style launcher to great success. Everything worked as planned and even though it was supposed to be an unmanned flight Jeb, Bob, and Bill came along for the ride, so I am very glad that I added a chute and other necessities to the pod for reentry.

A while ago, I designed something capable of getting two kerbals down a mohole and back. This led to ambitious plans, possibly involving visiting the north and south holes with the one Lander.

Today, I made something that might give enough delta V for such a mission.

Got this big vegetable into orbit with half the fuel left in the middle seven boosters. Then I did a lot of docking to replace the mainsails with LV-Ns.

Jettisoning the mainsails, the launch fuel distribution system, and the LV-Ns' docking systems would leave a bunch of debris in the vicinity of the ship. But I was ready for them.

After blasting them to vapour, them doing some more tidying up in LKO, Milly landed the starfighter in Kerbin City.

Tempted to wait until the next version to do the mission, think of the science points you could get at the bottom of the Mohole! But that could be months away.

Decided to go to Duna! First time ever returning a Kerbal from outside the Kerbin system. Managed to do everything without MechJeb :).

Lining up in low Kerbin orbit for my long burn. screenshot1.png

Approaching Duna. The boosters on the side of my stage there are mostly for keeping everything rigid during launch. screenshot6.png

Jeb got very excited when he landed during an eclipse! screenshot13.png

Splashdown! Awaiting the Kerbal Navy to come and pick him up. screenshot17.png

This morning I redesigned my ROCKET SHIP to add some additional features (parachutes and some more delta-V, mainly) and do a few stylistic things. Then I sent it to Duna with the intention of landing and returning to orbit. I came in a little too low during the aerobraking and ended up making an emergency landing. While I landed it pretty safely, tall ships like these need some preparation and a higher angle when landing, so the result was pretty much as I expected.

At least they've got adequate living conditions while I send another to rescue them.

I continued preparations for a long term Jool mission.

screenshot43.png

In Jolian orbit the tug, currently nestled in the utility bay, will transform the ship into a permanent station. Thanks to Orbital Construction and an ample supply of RocketParts it will be able to construct a variety of probes and landers to explore and map the entire Jolian system.

The 'tail' is still under construction and will be extended to probably 4 tanks that can be discarded during flight.

This was actually the day before yesterday but... I sent a redesigned Kethane lander to Minmun. As I got there, good old Jeb could not contain himself, jumped out and landed to mark the spot for the lander. He then went back into orbit, met up with the lander and guided it in.

I now have two Part out of 5 for my grand our ship in orbit, Next to come is the landers/rovers and crew quarters.

I kinda hope this first pic says alot about how big it is. That is the entire fuel section in the nose cone being lifted by a bearcat5 and 4 energia 2nd stages.....it was full when it left kerbin and is almost dry at a 150k orbit. I think 3k tons sitting on the pad.

YAY stable orbit in 2 tries.

and then I sent up the next phase on a BobCat soyuz launcher which has easily become my favorite.

The solar panels are almost in proportion with the rest of the craft.

Jebediah decided to take out the new Extra Large Kethane Lander for a spin around Mun. As he was working out the landing procedures, he looked out the window and found this...

screenshot2.png

That looked like a good spot to land.

screenshot3.png

After a trek of about a kilometer, we see this beauty... You know... It did not look that far away.

screenshot4.png

A flag had to be set down...

screenshot6-1.png

Can you see me down here?

screenshot5.png

After having a little too much fun with the thruster pack, Jeb got a little too much speed built up and passed the lander up, after reenacting a slip and slide across the Muner surface for about 400 meters.

That feel...

Today I killed four Kerbals in two separate incidents and managed to mess up a rescue mission, which you see above. Now I have six to bring back. To be fair, I haven't properly landed this ship, but still... I am, however, proud of my landing, which was even closer than my last attempt at a targeted landing.

My computer started spontaneously shutting down when I was playing little pud Flash games, so I'm thinking I'm going to hold off on playing KSP for a while (at least until I can get into my box with a can of air to clean all the dust out of it). Hopefully that'll happen soon; it's a busy week ahead of me and I doubt I'd have much time to play anyway (which sucks, considering I've still got Jeb, Bob and Bill still waiting to land on Duna).
