What did you do in KSP1 today?

I went to visit KSC2. Well, I did a bunch of spaceplane development first that all turned out to be useless, then I got bored.

Skurj I Model AAb Toadstar heading for the inland space centre.

Why yes, that is a mod. Usually I wouldn't, but it provides no performance advantage, just pretty IVA. :) The stock Mk2 and Mk3 cockpit IVAs are uninspiring!

Ok, so I landed, which kinda broke one of the wings and two of the engines and trashed the tires and... yeah, it didn't go well.

Then I drove the remains closer, broke in half, flipped, drove a bit further on the front two wheels with the tiny remaining amount of charge in the cockpit, flipped again and stopped.

And planted a flag, because hey, Anbro's still alive.

Well. Made a few space planes SSTO and staged that are evenly balanced so they dont flip one way. Sucks that the simple fix was to use landing gears directly above the bottom ones. Oh well. One of my test runs it did prove handy. Sadly would have still crashed hard into the water dispite landing on the wheels nicely.

Today (or yesterday at this point, technically) I did some basic operational testing around Kerbin of a design I eventually plan to take to Duna. I also learned that the inflatable heat shields in Deadly Reentry are a pain and a half to manage properly.

I disbanded my Kethane refinery on Minmus, got everybody in ships (except two guys, because I accidentally crashed their ship. I'll be sending out another for them) and am sending them home.

They are my last Kerbals in space, and when they're home I'll be ready for .22

I used a wonderful dawn-scenary at the KSC to do a series of reverted SSTO-tests. As the sun was rising, the moon was setting - very beautiful. Usually, i dont like to revert flights...

BTW, since i cannot really land a plane safely, i prefer parachute-based landing approaches. Last night, one of these 25+ ton SSTOs was coming down with like 10 chutes ready to deploy. When they did, they tore the ship up at several places, but the central column seemed alright. Until it slowly started to tilt sideways and the capsule started to slip off of it very slowly - of course i had not put chutes on this specific part... So it had travlled like one time around kerbin, reached some 80km height, probably breaking several (personal) atmospheric speed-records in the process - just to do a suicidal slip off some 200m above the ground during landing... the tragedy! ;D Imagine Columbus coming back from the americas, approaching the spanish coast. The waiting crowd sees his ships approaching from the horizon. Look: You can see the sturdy seamen waving their hands! Can you hear them shouting? The harbormen are getting ready to catch the ropes to tie the ships. The crowd raises its voice:´HOORAY! HOORAY! HOO...*knaaark-splash-rattle-glugglugglug*...ray?´

Continuing Kerbals in Space research. Their first sub orbital rocket. With a K2-X engine, they got to 72K on the trajectory. With the better balanced RMA-3 pictured, the sub orbital trajectory made 182K. Later flight mimicked Alan Shepherd's sub orbital.

Redstone orbiter was then developed with a thruster pack being mandated. The final design placed the booster in a decaying trajectory while only requiring about 25% of the thruster pack fuel for achieving low Kerbal orbit. Bob will be returned after a couple of orbits.

Did nothing besides watch the 0.22 trailer - pretty sure I'll wait to download it until after the first bug patch comes out. Continued research on the name of my lander for the Constellation Program Challenge and considered a full "observation dome" Cupola module for the Julin Mun station. Began thinking about how I want to handle construction of the Julin Minmus station.

I did an idiot. After my first successful Mun landing in 0.22, I came home with pockets laden with science, only to jettison 70% of said science on re-entry. My heart sank as I watched the 2 goo modules and the Science Jr. disappear in to the ocean.
