Caterpillar Tracks- NOW OPEN SOURCE, ALL FILES OPEN TO PUBLIC

Recommended Posts

I cant give an ETA, mainly because I dont really know myself. But also, because if I gave one and missed it for any reason, we all know how that kinda stuff goes.

You're right, better to wait a while and get a nice work without deadly and/or annoying issues.

The updated parts looks very promising and I hope tracks will be managed smoothly like real ones.

I agree with you. Better to get a great product after a long wait than to get a poor product after a short wait.

There are a few small things left to implement, followed by more testing and bugfixes. Procedural tracks will not yet be one of those things.

I can say with 100% certainty that a release date is sometime in the future :P

Much sooner than later though.

Keeping with our policy of only releasing things in the future, to avoid them nasty paradoxes.

DITO! you may need a linux based user to help you debug... you never know... (and also i wanna stick the skillful tank turret onto the big tracks ASAP XD)

one last thing... how did you open the dll? or did you just start from scratch?

I am the linux based user :P I test-fix-rebuild roughly every 10 minutes as I'm working on it, to catch any bugs as soon as possible. It might not be too easy to have any testers keep up with that. Slows things down some, but it might save it from needing a bunch of bugfix updates later on.

It's entirely new code, which is why a fix for the old parts hasn't been released yet.

I'm sure you'll find no shortage of testers! And of course i am interested

Its funny that there was no mention of testers for this build :sticktongue: (Unless I missed something).

Will the problem with the tracks moving to the left or right be fixed in the new plugin?

6.forty will have to answer this one.

This should not be a problem for anyone, each track keeps itself in sync with its partner. I haven't tried any unbalanced payloads yet, so that might be a factor. Working on taming the adjustable suspension before I try strapping 100t to one side of it; right now, height adjustment launches it into the air and stiffness seems to be ignored.

there were a problem if you were putting several dual track module togather, like your launch platform. Becasue in the old plug-in each dual tracked module wanted to make it own turn resulting in the whole structure ripe itself apart

There will be a toggle to enable/disable individual sides of dual tracks for such use. As long as the platform is square and the inside tracks are disabled, they should work together as expected.

Moved this here as it doesn't yet have a release and as such shouldn't be in the addon releases forum. PM me or another mod when you guys are ready for a release and want it moved back.

Brilliant looking stuff as always, looking forward to being able to move it back :P

The previous release of caterpillar tracks are getting a complete overhaul and de-bugging. They will still be available on Spaceport, but they are very prone to bugging out/not working

I'm still using the old ones in 0.23, never bugged out and generally always work. crawler looks interesting though.

Then you are one of the lucky ones.

Or you are also using another plugin that seems to stabilise the tracks somehow? I have no idea if that could actually happen, but hooray, the old versions can still work for now.

Dang wish you could figure out how you managed that and release a hotfix. Tried the old ones many many times in different combinations and though all that one time had one try actually move in one direction then never worked again. :(
