Mun Facelift

Hey guys,

I just wanted to say that the new facelift on Mun and on Kerbin is absolutely gorgeous; love it. One question I have, though, is if/when are any of the other planets getting the same sort of facelift? I love the terrain on the two with all of their rugged features, but it'd be awesome to see more of that.

Also, what is there in the way of new things to do coming? Like soil sampling and other stuff.

I love 0.21 so far. Based on what I have noticed Kerban seems to have had some kind of moderate retexturing done to it. Aside from the area right around the KSP center, some of the mountains now are snow covered peaks and there's a river that I have never noticed before on the other continent. I've only been to the Mun, and orbited Kerban so far so I don't know about anywhere else yet. Looking at sending a probe to Minmus next to check it out, and then perhaps Duna.

Duna has had some changes apparently. Have yet to go there, but from the tracking station it looks flatter overall, but more rough. Matte, I guess.

Eve is pretty similar: flat, but rough. Here's hoping the tallest point has not been lowered, because launching from there does not need to be harder...

IIRC, five places were redone, so with Eve, Kerbin, Duna and Mun, that leaves one. Anybody?

I took a ship to Mun yesterday. It wasn't so bad, even if i landed on a slope inside one of the small craters inside a huge crater :P.

I guess if i'd landed near the middle of that crater ground would be nice and flat, but at least i got some nice views.

I was hoping part of the delay in releasing 0.21 was some tweaking being done on the Mün...but it appears not.

It still has basically two different sizes for the small craters...

And lots of craters on the maria...

And the craters have dark bottoms.

None of this looks realistic. I think the idea of procedurally generated craters is great, and this looks cool and all...just not realistic.

The changes to Eve have got me reconsidering where I'll land the Eve boat, with all the little islands that seem to have appeared. Decisions, decisions.

Well, gotta build the final Eve boat too.

I noticed that too, the Mun now looks like it has a bad case of Acne :0.0: I mean look at it, did ALL of the craters have to have such dark basins?

On another thread, Nova said he may want to tweak it. Maybe keep your bases outside the craters for now. But then, we don't know what might happen.

Yes, like peoples comments from the teaser pics, I agree with others that it could use some tweaks.

However... I suspected that it would look a lot better close up, say at a low and fast 6km high orbit. I was right.

There are too many dark basins, but that's because the procedural craters are always generated with them. There should be two types of procedural craters instead of one.

Edit: From this view, it looks fine.

Although a little too dark.
