Kerbals no longer able to repair broken solar panels?

I thought a some point if a solar panel broke you could walk a kerbal over an repair it like a tire. It seems you can't do that anymore. Is this a bug or dev decision?

It has never been possible to repair solar panels as far as I know.

you can repair wheels and landing struts, and repack parachutes. Solar panels? no. There's been people asking for the capability, maybe that got you confused.

Yep, you can't repair panels, which is a pity, it would be a really useful feature.

A Kerbal on EVA can deploy a retracted solar panel even if the ship is out of power, that might have been what you were thinking of.

I don't think it was ever possible to repair solar panels but it would be nice if Kerbals could repair them.

Yup, happened on Eve and Kerbin, I landed my pod, deployed the panels made some science stuff and then went back to KSC to keep playing... Later when I came to the vessel I left, solar panels were broken . Only on planet with atmosphere (I guess thick atmosphere but didn't try on Duna, wanted to keep my panels ) It would be nice to repair solar panel or at least on OX-4 and SP-W/L models to be able to convert the remains as basic OX-STAT panels.

I have just tested it and it looks like it doesn't do that anymore. That'd be really nice.

You can still get your solar panels broken in an accident, though.

It still occur in 0.22, not sure in 0.23

I wish i could have my kerbal repair solar panels. I went on an EVA and he went crashing through 10 panels on my ship completely destroying them all. Like a bull in a china shop! I left all the panels on Ike cause he couldn't pick em up to put them back together.

Solar panels aren't something you can just do a patch job on. You could replace sections, if they were designed to be modular (and you had spare parts), but there's no way you'd just magically be able to repair them. It doesn't make any sense.

Sooo, a kerbel can replace an entire monster truck tire but can't repair solar panels more or less the size of an EVA pack? If anything that doesn't make any sense.

With KAS you can repair them using a glitch if you have a container.

Take the broken panel off, put it in the container, take it out of the container again and it will be a nice shiny new working panel:D

That "glitch" as you call it is what I refer to as "fixing"

But the tire is gone not just flat like the smaller ones. That and it appears chunks are missing from some the black medium one as well. That's not a patch job. If a kerbal can replace a whole tire, he can replace a few squares of solar panels.

The menu clearly says Repair, not Replace. So there - he has some tools in his backpack, such as KerHammer and KerWelder, and repairs it in place.

Solar panels are electronics and he's not carrying appropriate tool for it. Yet.
