Science gathering comparison

Hey Guys

Just started playing the full version of ksp for the first time, and Im now wondering how Im doing gathering science compared to other players. In 1 hour and 51 min of fight time I got 398 science, and I only left atmo twice, is that a good rate, or am I not getting as much as I could be, or am a I getting more than other people have? I was spending science as soon as I got enough to get something new, so i dont have much left now :) So how did you guys go? I would just like to be able to make a comparison. Im playing 0.23 by the way.

P.S. if this is in the wrong place could someone please tell me, im new at this

I'm guessing this is behind the curve for the most experienced KSP players, but if you're new and just starting out, it is probably OK.

Is only leaving the atmosphere twice your decision or just the limitations of your designs? There is a lot more science to be gained out in space.

I didnt try to leave atmo, i was gathering all the biome science around the ksc. Next time ill try going into space instead. Still got nice and far down tech tree. Now im trying to land on the moon. Not as easy as it looks. Poor jeb.

There's no proper pace. Later, when parts cost money and that sort of thing, players may need to find ways to be speedy and efficient, but for right now, just have fun with it. And by the way, most players' first few missions don't gain much because there are limitations on what you can build with beginning parts.

Well, you can get 372 in your
so you're not the best yet ;)

Seems like an exploit to me (not that it maters in a single player game).

As an experienced player...

you should be able to get a suborbital flight with an AP over 200k on your very first flight. this is 3-4 eva reports worth of science depending on how many biomes you fly over. To maximize science here you want to maximize your time between 200k and 70k, but in any case you should have enough to get decouplers, mystery goo, and the 909.

That should be enough to get a mun or minmus flyby (or orbit/landing if you are really aggressive) which should net you 200+ science.

With that you can buy radial decouplers and fuel lines which will get you just about anywhere.

Then Minmus :) Bit hard to get to at first, but landing there is a cake. With good lander project, you can do a couple of suborbital hops to visit more than one biome. Or if you are impatient you can send kerbonaut there with EVA rocketpack. EVA report plus surface sample from 3-4 biomes will net you a hefty amount of science. Get docking ports and NERVA engines, and you will have access to entire system.

hmm, interesting. thought you could only get 1 EVA report and 1 crew report per mission...

EVA and crew reports can be transmitted with no data loss. Thus when finding a new biome to report from, you can transmit again for all the science.
