Today, we present video of a two hour livestream where Scott Manley plays Kerbal Space Program: Asteroid Redirect Mission. Pretty soon, you’ll be able to, as well, but in the meantime, let Scott show you how it’s done.

Seen it before, great video!

BTW, he plays with mods - Kerbal Engineer Redux at least, and looks like there isn't any troubles. That's good to see, I hate to wait until all my favorite mods are updated (and some of them don't...)

Oh, and obligatory: how exactly "soon" is "Pretty soon"? :)

I'd say by the end of the week!

there were some issues with KE recognizing the new combined fuel/engine boosters.

KER has that problem anyway. It's a known bug, IIRC.

Yeah, KER gets a bit confused right now sometimes, especially around jet engines, so it's always been a bit of work to figure out some stuff. But that's ok, a bit of knowledge of the rocket equation is all that's needed to figure out the real values, and it's always good to know how the tools you have work at least in a superficial way.

I was more interested in the "bail out" messages he got at the end of the video. What was that about?

No clue, I didn't see it. Probably just a little message like the old KIA when crew died.

There was that 'WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?' voice screaming in my head many times throughout the video. Really, the pack should be released already. Watching others is too painful. I want my own experience.

Agreed. I facepalmed a lot watching this. His problem with understanding the orange and purple maneuver nodes had me yelling at the screen.

Same. While I very much appreciate those with early access to experimental builds doing streams like this for all of us who don't, I really wish they were all a lot better at the game. Interceptions are so trivial once you have a basic understanding of orbital mechanics, I find it astounding that those who are so well known on YouTube or Twitch are so bad at them. This isn't just at Manley, but all the KSP-TV folks as well. I would watch a heck of a lot more KSP-TV if they would stop spending so many minutes fussing with maneuver nodes in every stream.

I meant the main problem is that they are doing things differently than I would do them. That's the main source of frustration, at least in my case. But that does not mean they are doing things wrong. There's no 'right' or 'wrong' way of playing KSP. And they are coming to public so other people have fun, we need to appreciate that.

Manleys performance degrades significantly when live-streaming. As would with most of us. Very little people are comfortable performing for a live audience, and those who are often gained it through years of experience. Natural performers (who also perform combined tasks of logic, reflexes and control) are very VERY rare.

Not talking about people reading from auto-cues or stage artists who remember and recall a certain trick.

Nevertheless, I do agree that (seemingly) understanding of orbital mechanics and use of nodes is less-than-exemplary in most video's.

Someone/we should found an 'orbital mechanics for KSP' course...

This, just look at the Manley Squad ARM interview. The Squad guys are most likely the best at this game, but they are not natural performers. I loved the interview, and it really showed that the squad guys are developers. Also Semilatus Rectum.

I think they are decent players and knowing exactly how the game works is an advantage for them but I don't think they can be considered best. They need to spend a lot of time developing the game, not playing it or looking for tips and tricks from other players.

Yeah, they have better things to do (actually making the game) than playing it a lot and getting really good. I don't mind at all if the Squad guys suck at their own game.

I don't gt why people get turned off by the fact that youtubers aren't all that good at KSP. They never said they were good. Nowhere was it said "you must be good to put videos online." They do the best they can with what they've got.

If you're so worked up about it, video editing software is much simpler to understand than orbital mechanics, and you learned that easy enough.
