No stock fairings for engines *Sub-assembly*

Recommended Posts

*I have posted this also in GusTurbo's Open source construction techniques post: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/43086-Open-Source-Construction-Techniques-for-Craft-Aesthetics?p=1121670#post1121670*

I thought I would post it here too so more people can see it. I think it will be really helpful for craft construction.

Hi all,

I have made a sub-assembly for engines with no stock fairings attached.

So far I have the following engines using the TR-2V and TR-2C stack separators:

-LV-T30

-Poodle

-Skipper

-LV-T45

-LV-909

The sub assembly is a stack of the engines so you can pick out the one you want to use each time and delete the rest.

Please be aware that if you remove the separator you will "break" the magic spell and the horrid fairing will return.

I am working on bigger separators for the rest of the engines its just that those separators are the easiest to get this trick to work with.

These should come in very handy for many different types of builds.

This is brilliant MajorJim! :D

It's really a Spacecraft Exchange thread, but still brilliant, gotta move it (people will still find it don't worry)

That's ok. I was hoping to put it in a thread away from the exchange though. Any tips as to where I could put it?

Well the place for stuff like this is the Exchange, and you have it in the techniques thread, and I've left a one day redirect so it'll be seen, that's plenty to be fair.

Right I see, yes that is fair. Thanks Sal.

Huh? what??? how...?! Yo Jim what did you do to them? :-O

What did you edit?

He he. No file editing here.

I discovered this by accident a while ago. Then it happened again and I saw what did it.

You need to have part clipping enabled. Place separator on engine then place an object onto the separator in its 'upper' position, closest to the engine bell.

Then remove the object. Keep doing this till the fairing disappears.

You've done it again, Majorjim! Checking if it's been long enough to give more rep to you!! :)

The no-fairings nuclear engines should be really useful as well...

Edit: yep! :)

Thanks Woopert, now if I can only get the little engine to work.. It used to, but it works slightly differently after the latest patch.

You know that there's a feature in TweakableEverything that disables engine fairings.

Does it still let people not using the mod load it? I've always been "intrigued" by TweakableEverything, but want to keep the craft stock (since stock craft are accessible to everyone, not saying mods are bad :sticktongue:)

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
