Mods which should be stock?

Which mods do you think should be made stock?

I think only simple mods like http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/56440 or like the auto navball opener for the map screen should be made stock.

Only mods which fit in flawlessly with the game should be suggested, ideally. Nothing game-changing like Interstellar or Remote Tech.

DISCLAIMER: I understand the limitations of mods and why Squad won't directly add mods etc. but this is pure speculation.

Also do not, I repeat DO NOT say "I want Mechjeb in KSP". Please. Please? :)

Stock MechJeb would be nice. Along with a change to the game that you can pilot unmanned ships only when there's a Kerbal within a light-second or so to control it. Otherwise you'd be forced to use the autopilot.

Kerbal Engineering Redux, with it's ephemeris and catalogue, options and the advanced HUD make piloting much easier, but still require you to do everything.

Mods like Universal Storage and Fustek, or KW rocketry add some great variety and options into the game too.

1. MechJeb

2. MechJeb

3. MechJeb

4. Novapunch

5. MechJeb

6. Procedural Fairings

7. MechJeb

8. Remote Tech (nvr used it but I like its concept)

9. Robotics like the Canada Arm NASA uses.

We need a functional autopilot that also presents vital vehicular stats, orbital information and well MechJeb like it or not is the BEST option for it, and all the haters can just hush.

Some sort of dV/TWR calculator, whether KER, VOID or MJ's calculator.

Editor Extensions. Once I got used to this the VAB/SPH became painful to use without it.

One of the docking alignment mods. I like NavyFish's Docking Port Alignment Indicator, but others are good, too.

Kerbal Alarm Clock. If you want to run multiple simultaneous missions it's almost a necessity. Also helps with transfer windows and avoiding the high-timewarp-through-SOI-change bug.

There are others that I use and enjoy but are in the "nice to have" category rather than "won't play without it". There are also some good spaceplane parts mods; I'm not really a spaceplane guy so they don't do much for me but given the immense popularity of them it's hard to argue that more/better spaceplane parts wouldn't be a good addition to stock.

Real Solar System. Not RSS proper with Earth and Sol, but a properly-scaled Kerbin system that isn't a total joke.

Also Engineer, FAR, DREC, and Procedural Parts of all types.. I'd also vote for Real Fuels (and AJE) and redone engines because it's just so much more interesting playing with nuclear engines that can be configured for LHyd or LMethane.

We need a functional autopilot

That's not going to happen. It's even on the DO NOT SUGGEST list.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd like to see procedural parts, fairings, and wings become stock.

Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned MechJeb? I guess it would have surfaced anyway...

Remote Tech is a bit unforgiving and I'm not sure it fits into the stock game. A way to use antennae for science based on distance from Kerbin would be nice.

Procedural Fairings doesn't fit in that well with the "clip all the bit together" but that system can be dodgy.

KW is one I use in every save ever.

DRE. Tricky, because it makes the game more believable, but it would require an entire redesign of most spacecraft.

Universal storage and KAS would be amazing.

FAR would be good, but would widen the difficulty gap between rockets and planes. Rockets are easier because of the thinner atmosphere, planes are harder because you can't build in the same way anymore.

Robotics would be great.

Editor extensions would be great.

Docking alignment mods... Meh, maybe. Maybe.

SCANsat could be good.

Not actually sure what EVE is.

Then navball hasn't changed since 0.7 or whatever the first version was IIRC.

A way to set the altimeter to height above ground, instead of height above sea level (real pilots do this, I've seen it done in light aircraft. Jets probably have computers w/ both displays)

There, that should be most of the mods addressed, IMO that is.

I don't know whether people got the original purpose, which was to avoid adding too much like new mechanics.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to start this little discussion on some mods that should be included into the base game.

Just to start:

Enhanced Navball - Actually, this is where this idea came from. HarvestR commented that this would be added and just wasn't along with maneuver nodes because of time restraints.

kOS - So sad this was discontinued... It was the perfect balance between autopilot which everyone wanted and the "do it yourself" philosophy of KSP. Another one could be Notch's DCPU-16.

Environmental Visual enhancements - JUST GIVE ME SOME CLOUDSSS!!!

DISCLAIMER: I am not requesting this to happen, I'm just saying these mecanics add to the stock KSP experience. And please, no flame wars. Discussion =/= fighting.

Probably some KAS variant, Kethane (especially if we are going to have currency, in-situ resource mining will be almost necessary). Then FAR, DRE, larger solar system. Procedural everything. Things to make the game more difficult without making it more complicated.

KOS discontinued? A pity if it is but I'd rather see a scripting language such as Lua or python used for an autopilot.

Not so fussed about the pretty pictures myself but the stock data-displays should at least give us what we need for design, deltaV and TWR, rather than needing KER/VOID/MJ.

Beyond that I'd want functionality rather than shiny - SCANSat/RT2 for probes, something for bases (Kethane?), anything for rovers.

Actually I vote for KAC before any of these.

I don't actually use Enhanced Navball, just the Navball Docking Alignment Indicator. There isn't a pressing need for all those other vectors when one can eyeball them easily enough.

And yes, better clouds would be nice, but it isn't urgent. We're also going to need better aerodynamics someday, but that's not coming any time soon either.

So, wait. What is KAC? Sorry, I just never have heard of that mod. :(

It's one of the most useful mods out there (IMHO). Let's you launch a ship. Schedule the next maneuver node, then you can go launch another ship without worrying about missing the transfer.
