How do you prepare for next release?

So we know 0.24 is very very close (how close is another matter since Squad run on valve time :D), but do you do anything different in the current game

I'm currently launching rescue missions to retrieve all my kerbals from the various bases and space stations around the Kerbin system, and looking at my science reports, apart from a basic probe landed on eve, I've done nothing else

there. so my weekend will be doing some eve science as well and hopefully not leaving a Kerbal behind ....

Boris

Its a fun question so no taking it too seriously.. :)

I don't always start a new save, but I did for Science and I will again for Contracts. The new version goes in the same folder - I have a lot of versions dating back to .19 in there - and the career mode and all its ships get relegated to the trash heap.

It will be interesting to start over with funds. Playing the career mode limited by the tech nodes made it feel like I was playing it for the first time again. I wonder what new challenges Funds will present that will breathe some new life into this game.

I remove all my mods, start a new career save, then gather enough science and practice to get a successful moonshot done without mods - careful to remember that without FAR I can pretty much fly however I want :P

Seriously though. Pull the mods, run a new career save, moonshot. That way you're ready for the patched version and can be quite entertained while you wait for Kethane/KAS/Engineering Redux/whateverfloatsyerboat to get gussied up with the newest version.

I think I'll use the new mod repository to re-download all my mods too. Time for a fresh start, right?

I launch absurd contraptions lacking mission-critical equipment like solar panels or parachutes, prang landers into planet surfaces, and crash spaceplanes into the sea.

Pretty much business as usual.

With the new economics and contracts this update will most likely be both save and mod breaking. Time to start fresh again and add mods as they are updated.

Mods will need updating as usual, but what makes you think it'll be save-breaking?

As usual i recall all kerbaled missions, so it wont matter to start over if the save files break.

I do a manual install without mods, take a look at the new features and then decide which mods will be put back in.

Usually the mod-count gets reduced from update to update. Then i import the old saves and vessels and take a look if everything is ok.

My plan was to accomplish the DUMAC challenge in career mode before the next release, but all my saves got corrupted and deleted so I'm not doing anything serious, just random stuff. I think I'll fly an apollo-style tribute mission for the 45th anniversary of Apollo11.

EDIT: Oh, and try to visit an asteroid, because I never did it even if it's the current version main feature:D

Balance will be the biggest issue, especially with mods like B9 that got tons of parts. Suddenly "cheating with mods" will get a new meaning.

Only in career where it finally will have a meaning. Hopefully now `cheating` will be something you can only do in career and sandbox will become what it should be, a free, open place to create beautiful craft that fulfill all the fantasies that the little kerbonauts had when they were eggs/seed/pods about making space stations and having bases and carrying kerbonauts in futuristic craft n stuff.

Even I would say that using mods in a career save would be cheating, depending on the mod. Deadly ReEntry for example could hardly be called an unfair advantage.

I`m finding myself on the forum more while I wait for 0.24. I`m thinking about trying to make an SSTO with a decent payload from basic parts that won`t burn up on the way back down. Thinking about cheap stage 1, reusable stage 2 (or a long stage 2 that gets to orbit and can re-enter)

Not playing much except to test craft designs. I`m trying to get a handle on which mods probably won`t work with the 64 bit client.

Hey, you can even do a new channel -

'Frankenship On A Budget! Explore Space in a Physics-Mocking Abomination for Just Pennies a Day!'

It's not just about beating the Unity engine like it owes you money.... it's about doing it on the cheap now!

I firmly believe that with the new 'reputation' system there should be 'reputation awards' for doing terribly foolish things and surviving. 'Traveled to the Mun and back using just solid state boosters, strewing them through space, never to be recovered.... What were you thinking?!? HERE IS YOUR AWARD. GOOD JOB.'

Cheating is already something which you can't do in either mode, since it is a creative game that you are not playing against anyone, nor are you there to follow a premade experience.
